A couple of pictures taken at Bradford-on-Avon. This was my first two pictures taken using slide film and I remember feeling quite excited that I had 'matured' to transparencies!

31254, up parcels working, Bradford-on-Avon station
Using my Helios 135mm telephoto lens at Bradford-on-Avon has compressed the view looking along the Avon Valley towards Bath. Locally based at Bristol Bath Road, 31254 was a regularly spotted member of the class but not for much longer as it was withdrawn seven months after this picture was taken. It is seen hauling a parcels working in the Westbury direction, a train made up of a mixture of parcels vans including an LMS and Southern variant. Notice the relatively empty station car park, a scene very unlikely today. The Bedford TK lorry belonging to Southern Electric and the white Austin Maxi will, like the class 31, will be long-gone!

31123, unidentified Bristol Temple Meads working, Bradford-on-Avon station
31123 brings an unidentified working through Bradford-on-Avon station. It has just passed through the short tunnel and under the two bridges that carry Trowbridge and Frome Roads into the town from the west. I would be very interested to know what this train actually was as it is unusually long for this line, most were usually five-coach workings. Juts putting in an appearance to there left is Bradford's down starter, BJ102, that was actually a distant controlled by Bradford Junction signal box some three miles down the line towards Trowbridge.
