As I had to drive out to Weedon to drop my old Power Mac off for repair at the excellent Apple Village www.applevillage.co.uk I thought that I would see what the new bridge, constructed for the A45 bypass, was like for photographic opportunities. The bypass was opened in December 2018 to relieve the blight of traffic through both Weedon and Flore. I was delighted to find that the bridge offers some great new views of the line and I will be visiting again but parking the car nearby is a problem!

350370, LN 10.46 London Euston-Crewe (1U31, 1L), A45 Weedon bypass bridge My first ever picture taken from the A45 Weedon bypass bridge that was opened less than two months previous to this visit. 350370 swings round on one of the many sharp and cambered curves of this section of line with the 10.46 Euston to Crewe. 390129, VT 11.00 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H20, RT), A45 Weedon bypass bridge The early spring sunshine catches the side of 390129 'City of Stoke-on-Trent' sweeps around of series of reverse curves at Weedon in Northamptonshire. The Pendolino is forming the 11.00 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly and its tilting mechanism will be in full action on this section of line to avoid the cappuccinos and skinny flat whites being spilt! Notice the strange area of exposed soil in the field behind the train. This was where contractors who were involved in the building of the bridge and bypass had one of their 'camps' and its associated access road. 390039, VT 10.15 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A22, RT), A45 Weedon bypass bridge I would not normally take a picture framed quite like this but I wanted to show the gradient of the bridge that carries the new A45 bypass climbs at around Weedon. Opened in December 2018, the road is climbing steeply here from its junction with the A5. 390039 sweeps around one of the reverse curves working the 10.15 Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston. After a cloudy start, it had turned into a glorious day with a hint of spring about it with temperatures reaching the dizzy heights of double figures! 390156, VT 11.07 London Euston-Liverpool Lime Street (1F15, 7L), A45 Weedon bypass bridge 390156 'Stockport 170' passes through Weedon with the 11.07 Euston to Liverpool Lime Street. This is a new photographic position that has become available with the opening of the new Weedon bypass. The bridge that carried the old A45, that blighted the village, is seen in the distance. This was also the spot that Weedon station was located that closed on 15.09.58. The slightly raised section of land parallel to the line where the boxes are situated carried the ex L & NW line that linked the WCML to Leamington Spa via Daventry and Southam. 390157, VT 10.35 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A24, 1L), A45 Weedon bypass bridge 390157 'Chad Varah' forming the 10.35 Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston is seen from the newly opened A45 bypass road bridge just north of the village of Weedon. This spot, and the one looking south from this location, are extremely welcome as there is very few photographic locations on this stretch of line, a situation made even worse since the installation of the dreaded palisade fencing. 350254, LN 10.02 Crewe-London Euston (1U26, 4L), A45 Weedon bypass bridge London NorthWestern's 350254 sweeps around one of the many curves and steeply cambered sections of track on the Weedon loop line working the 10.02 Crewe to Euston 'fast' service. I am standing at recently created spot on the embankment just below the bridge of the recently opened Weedon bypass. Indeed, the shadow of the bridge behind me can be seen just in front of the train. 66423, 09.48 Tilbury-DIRFT (4M07), Victoria bridge On my journey home from Weedon, I took the back route that found me passing my 'home spot' of Victoria bridge. I pulled in for five minutes but was too late for the 4L75 Basford Hall Freightliner, however, I did capture 66423 leading the 09.48 Tilbury to Daventry Railfreight Terminal.
