Another cold morning but I wanted to get out and see the first of the year's Cumbrian Mountain Express'. I decided on a risky location that I had seen but not used and one that had been opened up by some recent Network Rail tree clearance near to Bugbrooke on the Weedon loop.

390128, VT 07.20 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H09, 2L), Bugbrooke SP673563 In the early morning cold light, 390128 'City of Preston' heads north around the Weedon loop near to Bugbrooke forming the 07.20 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly. There is still the remnants of yesterday's snow on the ground and it was a frosty morning following a cold night so the fields I crossed to get to this location were frozen hard. 390115, VT 06.35 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A06, 1E), Bugbrooke SP673563 390115 speeds southwards past the Northamptonshire village of Bugbrooke forming the 1A06 06.35 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston. 86259, outward leg of the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express, 07.10 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Bugbrooke SP673563 Veteren AC electric 86259 'Les Ross' (on this side at least!) leads the first of this year's Cumbrian Mountain Express' past a very cold Bugbrooke on the Weedon loop line. This 1Z86 excursion left Euston at 07.10 and then headed all the way to Carnforth. Here, 61306 'Mayflower' and 35018 'British India Line' took over for the climb over Shap to Carlisle followed by a return trip over the Settle and Carlisle route. 390020, VT 07.05 Wolverhampton-London Euston (1B05, 3L), Bugbrooke footbridge 390020 (I think!) passes Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire working the 07.05 Wolverhampton to Euston. The early morning sun had just raised itself above the hill behind me enough to illuminate the front end of the Pendolino, but my goodness, it remained bitterly cold!
