A lovely morning to spend an hour or so at Waverley waiting for my wife to 'prepare herself' for the day!

43316, GR 09.30 Edinburgh Waverley-London King`s Cross (1E09), Edinburgh Waverley station
43316 is seen at the back of the 09.30 Edinburgh to London King's Cross. This power car left Crewe Works in May 1979 being a late delivery to the ECML as part of set 254032.

The dispatcher raises his paddle in the air to the train manger (a guard to you and I) indicating it's time to leave Edinburgh Waverley station. CrossCountry's 221119 was a former Virgin unit named 'Amelia Earhart' and is seen here working the 07.35 Newcastle to Glasgow Central.

Under a glorious sky with Edinburgh's Old Town dominating the background, 43300 'Craigentinny' is seen at the head of the 09.30 to King's Cross. With ten minutes to go before departure the train crew chat on the platform catching some late summer sun.

Nameplate, 43300, GR 09.30 Edinburgh Waverley-London King s Cross (1E09), Edinburgh Waverley station
The nameplate and crest attached to the side of HST power car 43300. It was named 'Cragentinny' after the depot, just east of Edingburgh, ten years ago 2006 when it was operated by GNER. However, the crest and large '100 years' vinyls were added two years ago and certainly make for a dramatic look!

380110, SR 09.43 Edinburgh Wavereley-North Berwick (2Y08), Edinburgh Waverley station
380110 still has its headlights illuminated but these will soon be switched off and red tail lights will be displayed as 380110 will leave platform nine forming the 09.43 to North Berwick. North Berwick was once a bit of railway outpost and considered for closure both under Beeching and Serpell, but investment and improvements have led to quite a renaissance so its future seems assured.

158723, SR 09.54 Edinburgh Waverley-Tweedbank (2T72) & 91107, GR 10.00 Edinburgh Waverley-London King`s Cross (1E10), Edinburgh Waverley station
158723 will soon work the 09.54 to Tweedbank from Edinburgh Waverley's platform one. Meanwhile, from platform two 91107 'Skyfall' will leave propelling the 10.00 to King's Cross just after the Tweedbank service. 91107 has retained its nameplates despite being renumbered following its brief life as 91007 to commemorate the release of the James Bond film in 2012.

380107, SR 10.43 Edinburgh Wavereley-North Berwick (2Y10), Edinburgh Waverley station
There were no issues with me standing on platform four this morning following yesterday's issues, see...... https://www.ontheupfast.com/v/photos/21936chg/25778364804/x380107-18-14-edinburgh-waverley .... 380107 is stabled on the platform and will work the 10.43 to North Berwick later in the morning. I love the lighting in this image with the sun illuminating the stunning roof at the eastern end of Waverley station.

170401, SR 09.49 Edinburgh Waverley-Glenrothes with Thornton (2G49), Edinburgh Waverley station
Whilst most of Edinburgh Waverley station is 'open' allowing access to most platforms, the east facing bays have a gate line meaning I did not get on to them, I do not like having to ask so rarely do! From the gate line, 170401 is about to leave working the 09.49 to Glenrothes with Thornton

350409,TP 10.08 Edinburgh Wavereley-Manchester Airport (1M95) & 170460, SR 10.03 Edinburgh Waverley-Dunblane (2P33), Edinburgh Waverley station
Passengers for the TPE 10.08 service to Manchester Airport make their way along the platform to board 350409 in its rather gaudy livery. Next to it, 170460 will leave just before the Desiro forming the 2P33 10.03 to Dunblane. The picture is taken from the gate line that prevented me gaining access to the platform that stopped me composing a better picture!

170473, SR 09.00 Glasgow Central-Edinburgh Waverley (1R84), Edinburgh Waverley station
170473 arrives into Edinburgh Waverley station with the 09.00 from Glasgow Central. Over the years, various different types of trains have operated these Glasgow-Edinburgh-Glasgow shuttles ranging from the class 126 inter-city Swindon DMUs of the 1960s, to the class 27 push/pulls of the 1970s and then to the class 47/DBSO combinations into the 1990s.

170427, SR 09.45 Edinburgh Waverley-Glasgow Queen Street (1R07), Edinburgh Waverley station
170427 leaving Edinburgh Waverley with the 09.45 to Glasgow Queen Street. It is just entering the 15 chain-long Mound Tunnel. On top, with the Union and saltir flags fluttering in the southerly breeze, is the Scottish National Gallery. I have visited it a number of times and in the quieter galleries the trains can be felt and heard in the tunnel directly below!

66737, return leg of The Highland Journey, Dundee-Edinburgh Waverley) (1H84), Edinburgh Waverley station
66737 'Lesia' stands at Waverley's platform 19 having arrived with the final leg of the The Highland Journey. For those with enough money (most accents that I heard from the passengers sounded to be American) a full tour of the highlands could be undertaken over several days with the journey undertaken in the lap of luxury including having a first class sleeper compartment, a day room and your own steward to take care of all your needs.

99965, return leg of The Highland Journey, Dundee-Edinburgh Waverley (1H84), Edinburgh Waverley station
Having recently arrived and with its passengers and crew disembarking, The Highland Journey tree-day tour of Scotland has come to an end. At the rear of the train is this impressive and unusual observation car 99965. The train's final leg was in from Dundee this morning and it is seen standing at Edinburgh Waverley's platform 19.
