6094 (9107), used as Pullman buffet, Wirksworth station
Former Eastleigh built to '2HAP' was delivered in 1959 for use on the Southern Region. It finally ended its working life on the Gatwick Express services in 2002. After it was withdrawn Porterbrook donated the coach to the Ecclesbourne Railway and it has been converted to a static buffet car. It now wears Pullman's umber and cream livery and sits in a bay platform at Wirksworth station.

E51505, stabled, Wirksworth station
Class 101 DMC E51505 was new in early 1959 being delivered to the North Eastern Region. It was painted into BR blue in the early 1970s and then a little later into the classic blue and grey livery. Its final livery was that of Regional Railways that it wore until withdrawn from Cardiff Canton in 2000. It was part of a unit that made history in January 2014 when it was the first DMU to operate on the staunchly steam-only Bluebell Railway. It is seen here oddly sitting on its own at Wirksworth station.

This class 101 DMU E51188, looks a little faded as it stands in Wirksworth's yard. It was delivered new in 1959 and following a working career that found it from Glasgow, to Birmingham to the north west it was withdrawn in 2001. This made it one of the very last first generation DMUs to be in service. It has been kept at various locations on the preserved network and is privately owned but in the care of Railcar Enterprises.

Three different DMU carriages sit stabled in Wirksworth yard. From left to right, class 108 DMBS E53599, then class 118 DMBS W51073 and finally, in green, class 101 TSL E59303. All of these units are in use on the Ecclesbourne Railway that runs all the way from its namesake to link up with the national network at Duffield. The number of DMUs found on this heritage line are testament to that it is designated as a centre of excellence for DMU restoration.

33103, stabled, Wirksworth yard
33103 'Swordfish' stands in the summer sun at the north end of Wirksworth yard. It has now been painted back into BR blue following its spell in Fragonset's black lined livery. It's extra high level air pipes, and, out of view, buckeye coupling is testament to the fact that it was one of the Cromptons that was used on the Bournemouth to Weymouth line hauling EMUs before this section of line was electrified.

33103 & D7629, stabled, Wirksworth yard
33103 'Swordfish' is seen stabled in Wirksworth yard. The Crompton is on-loan to the Ecclesbourne Railway having arrived last year. It has remained in Derbyshire apart from a brief spell on the Dartmoor Railway. It is still mainline certified but not to run under its own power. Behind it is D7629 that usually resides on the GCR (Nottingham) line. It is half way through a year on-loan to the Ecclesbourne Railway mainly being used to haul the afternoon dining trains.

Before and after! To the left in Wirksworth's yard work appears to be underway to restore class 108 DMC M51567. It has led a sad life since withdrawal in the mis 1990s with it passing from location to location with work to restore it never quite getting started. To the right is the finished article. Class 122 bubble car W55006 is now in regular use on the Ecclesbourne Railway after its restoration was completed three years ago in 2013.
