We took a trip to Buxton. Whilst my wife and son explored what it had to offer (shops wise!) I went to the station.

Frontage, Buxton station
The frontage of Buxton station with the inevitable car park in the foreground. This is the one remaining station of the two that were virtually identical design built side by side at this location. This one was operated by the LNWR for services to the Manchester area. The other one was operated by the Midland for services south and over the more challenging routes through the Peak District that closed in 1967.

150210, NT 13.29 Buxton-Manchester Piccadilly (2H01), Buxton station
150210 sits at Buxton station. It will work the 2H01 13.29 to Manchester Piccadilly. Notice the famous and recently restored glass and wrought iron fan window in the wall at the end of the station.

Site of former Buxton Diesel Depot (recently demolished)
When I last visited Buxton just over a year ago in 2015, the former diesel depot was still standing at a spot between the lamp post and the left hand started signal. Demolition looks like it was making way for the inevitable housing development. The depot used to be home to numerous DMUs and maintenance facility for the many locos. used on the local stone trains,

150228, NT 16.29 Buxton-Blackpool North (2N99) & 150149, NT 14.29 Buxton-Manchester Piccadilly (2H03), Buxton station
150228 stands on Buxton's platform one. It will work the 16.29 to Blackpool North. To the right is 150149 with 150210. The latter of these units will work the 14.20 to Manchester Piccadilly. This train was particularly busy with revellers in their wellies returning from the Y Festival at Pikehill.

Ex DMU battery charger, Buxton station
A reminder of times past when the first generation DMUs will have sat stabled at Buxton station and had their batteries charged. Quite why this charger has not been removed remains a mystery as its not exactly an attractive feature of platform one!

150210, NT 13.29 Buxton-Manchester Piccadilly (2H01), Buxton station
150210 leaves Buxton station with the 13.29 to Manchester Piccadilly. It has just passed one of Buxton's two remaining starter signals that are controlled by the LNWR 1894 signal box a short distance away to the left just out of shot in this image.

Site of former Buxton Diesel Depot (recently demolished)
The sign is forlornly warning people to take care but no trains or forklifts have passed this point for sometime. Trees have taken over the site of the former Buxton Diesel Depot. Through the greenery, a lone section of track can be seen.

150150, NT 12.49 Manchester Piccadilly-Buxton (2H82), Buxton station
Northern Trains 150150 arrives at Buxton station with the 12.49 from Manchester Piccadilly. Yes, I know that the barrier is spoiling the picture by blocking part of the front of the unit but I wanted a close up of both starter signals.

66136, 13.05 Dowlow-Ashburys (6H57), Buxton signal box
A rather distant shot of 66136 leading the 13.05 Dowlow quarry to Ashbuys stone train. I believe that this working has the 6H57 headcode but am happy for readers to advise me otherwise. The train is seen passing Buxton's nicely looked after LNWR 1894 signal box.

150274, NT 14.29 Buxton-Manchester Piccadilly (2H03), Buxton station
Having recently arrived from Manchester Piccadilly, 150274 will return there in the next thirty minutes or so as the 14.29 2H03 service.
