The journey down from Northampton. A bit slow as all services were on the slow lines avoiding Hanslope Junction due to engineering works. There was a number of PW and ballast trains on the up and down fast lines between Ashton and Wolverton where I counted a total of eight class 66s.

66594, 10.17 Hanslope Junction-Crewe Basford Hall (6Y60), Northampton station
66594 'NYK Spirit of Kyoto' passes through Northampton station leading a rake of MDA and MCA ballast wagons. This train was carrying a mixture of spoil and old ballast from the engineering work being undertaken around Hanlsope Junction as the 6Y60 10.17 to Crewe Basford hall.

350128, 350372 & 350250, LN 08.54 Birmingham New Street-London-Euston (2Y20, 10L), Northampton station
350128 and 350372 wait for 350250 to join the rear of the train to work forward as the three-unit 08.54 Birmingham New Street to Euston. We took this train to London passing a mass of infrastructure trains in the Wolverton area on the up and down fast lines. Tis meant that our arrival into London was some ten minutes late.

66055, 10.54 Harlesden Junction-Banbury PW train, Wembley Yard
66055 'Alain Thauvette' waits to leave Wembley Yard with the 10.54 Halesdon Junction to Banbury PW working. It went via the WCML to Northampton, then to Coventry where it took the South Junction to Leamington Spa and finally to Banbury. By anyone's books, this is a pretty roundabout route!

66122, stabled, Wembley Yard
66122 sits stabled in Wembley Yard. It was there for some time as it had not moved when we returned next day!

Tickets, Northampton-London Euston
Our outward tickets from Northampton. Nearly £72 is a lot of money for three off-peak returns and that's with two railcards being loaded.
