What a disaster! Due to my incompetence, my boss and I had to abort our epic journey to Prestwick in order to collect a car for a customer. We missed the train from Northampton that connected with the Glasgow service at Rugby. We turned straight around and headed back to work again!

Having arrived at Rugby we realised that we had missed the Glasgow train so I took a leisurely picture of the rear of our train from Northampton. 350108 forms the 06.35 Northampton to Crewe.

350121, LM 06.54 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1Y86), Northampton station
Having done a sharp about turn at Rugby, this is the train that we took back to Northampton, the 06.54 Birmingham New Street to Euston. Here at Northampton, less than an hour after we left, 350121 waits to head south.

Tickets, Northampton-Prestwick (Tickets returned for refund)
Our un-used tickets that were returned for a partial refund. I really cocked up on this occasion, completely misunderstanding the time that we had to be at Rugby to catch the Glasgow train.
Receipt for ticket, Rugby-Northampton (in lieu of lost normal tickets)
I misplaced the tickets for the single journey back from Rugby so the receipt will have to suffice. What is does illustrate is the cost caomparrison for the orignal journey that was supposed to have been undertken. The walk-on peak single fare for the two of us from Rugby to Northampton was £17.40 (pair) that equates to nearly 70p/mile. The original tickets to Prestwick Town were £58 (pair), that works out to be 0.08p/mile....what can I say?
