I managed to combine the delivery of Christmas cards in the village with a stop at the line on Hyde Road bridge in Roade to see WCR's move from Southall to Carnforth. In previous years this move has been steam powered throughout. This year, with the Black 5 in steam, it was piloted by a class 37 reminding me of last summer's steam charters!

390107, VT 10.15 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A24, 5L), Hyde Road bridge 390107 was the first member of the class to receive the revised flowing silk livery. It is seen leaving Roade Cutting about to pass under Hyde Road bridge forming the 10.15 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston. Class 221, 11.10 London Euston-Chester (1D85, RT), Hyde Road bridge An unidentified class 221 heads north about to pass under Roade's Hyde Road bridge. 37516 & 44781, 09.44 Southall-Carnforth (5Z21), Hyde Road bridge I selected this spot at Hyde Road bridge in Roade as I thought that this working would only be the two locomotives and a support coach that would have fitted in the frame. However, it was in fact a fairly lengthy set of stock being towed as the 09.44 Southall to Carnforth. Running as 5Z21 it was being hauled by 37516 'Loch Laidon' and Black 5 4-6-0 44781 of which the latter was clearly in steam and adorned with some festive tinsel. Class 221, VT 08.55 Holyhead-London Euston (1A25, 2L), Hyde Road bridge A class 221 heads south under Hyde Road bridge in the village of Roade forming the 08.55 Holyhead to London Euston. 350110 & 350107, LN 10.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W10), Hyde Road bridge 350110 and 350107 is about to exit Roade Cutting under Hyde Road bridge forming the 10.33 Birmingham New Street to London Euston. Close examination of the cab window reveals a reflection of the bridge I'm standing on and even closer magnification using Photoshop reveals me standing taking the picture!
