A short visit to Bathampton Junction where the Avon Valley line to Westbury leaves the GWML just east of Bath. I am not sure who I went with or if there was a specific purpose for my visit?

253014, unidentified up working, Bathampton Junction
An image that shows the totally impractical maximum shutter speed of the Exa 35mm camera that I was using. 253014 had only completed six weeks in service by this date and still looks very smart (if a little blurred!) as it speeds eastwards with an unidentified Paddington working passing Bathampton Junction. I was standing on the site of the old station at Bathampton that closed in October 1966.

37299 & 37270, up LEs, Bathampton Junction
37299 and 37270 run light engine past Bathampton Junction on the GWML just east of Bath. I don't have it recorded, but it is more than likely that they were going to diverge from the mainline just behind me and then head along the Avon Valley to Westbury. 37299 looks somewhat work-stained leading the well presented 37270. 37299 survived until being cut-up at Booth's scrapyard in Rotherham at the beginning of 2013. However, 37270 is still with us as 37409 as a DRS locomotive. Indeed, at the time of writing, I observed it at Norwich station just three weeks previous to writing this text in the autumn of 2018.
