43 310, 12.37 Brussels Midi-Paris Nord (THA 9336), Brussels Midi station
Passengers make their way along platform 4a at Brussels Midi station in order to catch the 12.37 to Paris Nord, THA 9336 service. It is being worked by one of Thalys PBA sets number 4331. This class 43 (not be confused with the UK class 43 HSTs!) were introduced in 1998 and are based on the french TGV platform.

2717, 11.38 Antwerp Centraal-Brussels Midi (IC 3332) & 1890, 11.05 Turnhout-Binche (IC 3433), Brussels Midi station
Not a great picture but, I have included it because it includes one of Belgian Railways' class 27 locomotives. These are not particularly common on passenger work having been transferred to freight duties in 2007. It can bee seen heavily graffitied entering Brussesl Midi station working the 11.38 from Antwerp Centraal that will terminate here. Notice the ferris wheel in the background marking the arrival of the fair that was set up the entire length of the nearby Boulevard Du Midi

43 430, 11.59 Lille Europe-Amsterdam Central (THA 9993), Brussel Midi station
Thalys PBA number 4343 (43 430) stands in Brussels Midi station. My family and I boarded this train, the 11.59 from Lille Europe, and took it to Amsterdam Central where it terminated. These TGV styled units are very impressive if surprisingly short having only 10 coaches.

Speed information on-board 43 430, 11.59 Lille Europe-Amsterdam Central (300kmh=186.4mph)
The wifi on-board the 11.59 from Lille Europe to Amsterdam Central was good. The home screen had a map showing progress across the flatlands of Belguim and the Netherlands. Included was this speedo, it remained at this speed for some distance when on the high-speed sections of track. 300kph (186mph) is the maximum for these Thalys PBA units and very nice they are too! Comfortable, roomy and smooth and only taking just over an hour and a half to make the journey to the Dutch capital.
Frontage, Amsterdam Central station
Amsterdam Central is a very impressive structure built in the Gothic Renaissance Revival style and opened in 1889. Like much of The Netherlands, it is built on reclaimed land that caused huge problems during construction. The architect was Pierre Cuypers who was also responsible for other buildings such as the Rijksmuseum with which is shares many similarities. Despite it being in the capital city, it is the second busiest Dutch station beaten to place by Utrecht Central.
