My third trip of the year to Box in Wiltshire for a neck treatment. Again, I went with Andy. We passed Box and had a bit of time at Bath station where I left Andy picking him up later at Chippenham on the journey back.

43151, GW 10.30 Bristol Temple Meads-London Paddington (1A13, 1E), Bath Spa station
43151 leads the 10.30 from Bristol to London Paddington into Bath Spa station. Its good to see the platform so packed with passengers, my early photos taken in the 1970s show a much quieter scene. 43151 was part of a late delivery of three power cars designated as spare units, nominally, as part of set 253041 but this was never actually configured and numbered so.

43002 (253001), GW 09.30 London Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads (1C08, 5E), Bath Spa station
Minus the hi-viz dispatchers, the nameplate and the CCTV camera this could have been a shot that I took at Bath in 1977! Obviously, the quality would not have been as good but the subject as certainly is! Looking superb in its retro. BR livery, 43002 'Sir Kenneth Grange’ arrives into Bath station at the head of the 09.30 Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads.

153368 & 150248, GW 08.53 Weymouth-Bristol Temple Meads (2V88, 2E), Bath Spa station
153368 and 150248 are corridor non-connected units seen here entering Bath Spa in the pouring rain working the 08.53 Weymouth to Bristol Temple Meads. The scene here has changed very little over the years apart from the removal of the middle tracks. For quite sometime I thought that it was to change quite significantly with the installation of the electrification paraphernalia. However, the government's decision to end the wires at Thingley Junction has put paid to Bath being 'under the wires'; for the moment at least!

153368 & 150248, GW 08.53 Weymouth-Bristol Temple Meads (2V88, 2E) & 158763, GW 08.50 Great Malvern-Westbury (2F97, RT), Bath Spa station
A meeting of units at Bath Spa. 150248 at the back of the 08.53 Weymouth to Bristol Temple Meads whilst 158763 arrives with the 08.50 Great Malvern to Westbury. Notice the evidence of the impending preparations for the platform works in order to accommodate the class 800s. The would necessitate the closure of Bath station over the Easter period of 2017.

43129, GW 11.00 Bristol Temple Meads-London Paddington (1A14, 4L), Bath Spa station
43129 leads the 11.00 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington into Bath Spa station. 43129 was part of a later batch delivered to the Western Region in 1981. Initially, it was part of set 253030. As it transpired, this would be the last time that I would see this power car until it moved to the Scottish Region, here in yet another reincarnation, it was seen at Perth station, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/v/photos/21936chg/27271885804/x43129-17-40-glasgow-queen-street

66587, 10.58 Bristol FLT-London Gateway (4L32), Bath Spa station
66587 rushes through Bath Spa station working the daily 10.58 Bristol Freightliner Terminal to London Gateway. This train has tight pathing on this end of the GWML where it is only double track and pretty busy. Once it becomes largely four-track from Swindon there are options for control.

43128, GW 12.00 London Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads (1C13, 6L), Chippenham station
After my neck treatment in Box, I drove the short distance to Chippenham to collect Andy who had travelled from Bath. He had been lucky enough to travel with celebrity HST 43002 'Sir Kenneth Grange'. 43128 arrives into Chippenham at the front of the 12.00 Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads, the 1C13. 43128 was part of set 253029 that was derived during 1981 to the Western Region.

43190, GW 13.00 Bristol Temple Meads-London Paddington (1A18, RT), Chippenham station
43190 leads the 13.00 Bristol Temple Meads to Paddington 1A18 working into Chippenham station. 43190 was introduced in the summer of 1982 in order to work the new cross-country NE/SW HST routes. It was initially part of set 243054.

43015, GW 13.00 Bristol Temple Meads-London Paddington (1A18, RT) & 43128, 12.00 London Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads (1C13, 6L), Chippenham station
A meeting of HSTs at Chippenham station. 43015 (ex. 253007) waits at the rear of the 13.00 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington whilst 43128 (ex. 253029) is at the front of the 12.00 Paddington to Bristol. This is a scene soon to disappear from this and all spots along the GWML; a scene that we have all become so familiar with!
