As a life-member of the Deltic Preservation Society, I will always make the effort to get out and see when one of 'my' engines is running on the mainline. 55009 'Alycidon' was working The Albert Gilmour Memorial Charter from Linlithgow to London King's Cross and return. I was able to get out and see it on its return working, so a trip out in my Audi TT found me near to Offord D'arcy on the southern ECML, a spot that I had sought out last summer.

Named on 27th March 2018 at King's Cross, 91118 'The Fusilers' leads the 15.00 London King's Cross to Edinburgh past Offord D'Arcy between Huntingdon and St. Neots. This service was already running late, time that was never made up as it arrived at its destination 18 minutes down.

90039, GR 15.03 London King`s Cross-Leeds (1D19, 13L), Offord D`Arcy TL213652
Due to problems with class 91 availability Virgin East Coast (The following weekend to become state owned again as LNER) have had to draft in a 'proper' locomotive to haul some of their Mk.IV sets. Here, 90039, hired in from DB Cargo UK (formally EWS), hauls the 15.03 London King's Cross to Leeds 1D19 working. It is seen passing near to Offord D'Arcy taking the second of a series of reverse curves that follow the course of the nearby River Great Ouse.

82202, GR 12.00 Edinburgh-London King`s Cross, (1E14, 4E), Offord D`Arcy TL213652
DVT 82202 leads the 12.00 Edinburgh to London King's Cross 1E14 past Offord D'Arcy taking one of its reverse curves at some speed as it heads south. The distant colour light (P327) is at caution indicating that the gates of the busy level crossing in the nearby village of Offord Clunny are raised.
43306 & 43274, GR 15.04 London King`s Cross-York (1N87, 15L), Offord D`Arcy TL213652
43306 and 43274 at either end of the 1N87 15.04 London King's Cross to York take the reverse curves at Offord D'Arcy. Whilst it makes for an interesting picture to see a fast express leaning into curves, I suspect that the passengers cosseted in their comfortable Mk. III coaches would not even notice! 43306 has always been an Eastern Region power car being delivered as 43106 forming part of the 254026 set. 43274 was initially numbered 43074 as part of 254010, also an Eastern Region set.

43320, GR 09.52 Aberdeen-London King`s Cross (1E15, 1E), Offord D`Arcy TL213652
43320 leads an HST set forming the 1E15 09.52 Aberdeen to London King's Cross past Offord D'Arcy some 469 miles from its start point. The train has the final 53 miles to go, a distance that it will complete in about 40 minutes. 43320 is an interesting power car. It was delivered to the Western Region in 1977 as 43120 but never assigned to a class 253 set. It was designated as a spare unit, along with 43121 before it moved to the Eastern Region to augment their services.

Great Northern 365502 and 365540 pass Offord D'Arcy forming the 15.15 London King's Cross to Peterborough local working. A significant number of these units have been moved away from this route due to the introduction of the class 700s.

An HST set formed of 43206 and 43290 heads north through the reverse curves at Offord D'Arcy working the 1S23 15.30 London King's Cross to Edinburgh. 43206 was an early Western Region power car that, as 43006, was part of set 253003. 43290 was an original Eastern Region power car, numbered 43090 that was part of set 254018.

55009, return leg of The Albert Gilmour Memorial, 15.23 London King`s Cross-Edinburgh (1Z42), Offord-D`Arcy TL213652
55009 'Alycidon' looks absolutely superb passing Offord D'Arcy at the head of the return leg of The Albert Gilmour Memorial railtour. This was the 1Z42 15.23 London King's Cross to Edinburgh that the Deltic hauled all the way, arriving on-time. It was a shame that the train was booked for the down slow line as it was hot on the heels of a Peterborough local train that meant it was off the power here. I know that these engines are 50 years old now but they are capable of 100mph sustained running. On a Saturday afternoon, with a bit afore thought, I'm sure that there are paths on the fast lines that can allow the power of these mighty machines to be full exploited.
