The 'Beast from the East' was just beginning to give up its grip, with the temperature just beginning to rise but this led to a blanket of fog covering the snow bound landscape. An early morning drive over to Wellingborough to see the steam-hauled 'Yorkshireman' railtour. I chose Finedon Road bridge just prior to an extended closure for complete re-building due to the impending electrification of the MML.

43044, EM 07.30 Nottingham-London St. Pancras (1B18, 1L), Wellingborough Finedon Road bridge
It's almost as some kind sole has cleared the front of 43044 so that I could identify the power car! The 07.30 Nottingham to St. Pancras comes around the curve past Findon Road sidings on the approach into Wellingborough in miserable conditions. 43044 was a 1977 Crewe built example that started its life on the ECML. Personally, I think that this East Midlands' livery is one of the best that hey have ever had. The HSTs look as fresh and modern as when they were introduced 40 years ago.....thoughts anybody?

222018, EM 08.16 Corby-London St. Pancras (1P19, 10L), Wellingborough Finedon Road bridge
East Midlands Meridian 222018 slows for its stop at Wellingborough station forming the 08.16 Corby to London St. Pancras. This is a going-away shot taken off Wellingborough's Finedon Road bridge. Very soon after this picture was taken the road and bridge was closed for rebuilding, I bet a shot like this will be impossible when it reopens due to the hideously high parapet that Network Rail insist on fitting to their new bridges!

222019, EM 08.02 London St. Pancras-Sheffield (1F10, RT), Wellingborough Finedon Road bridge
222019 accelerates away from Wellingborough through the misty gloom forming the 08.02 London St. Pancras to Sheffield. A few hardy souls had begun to gather on the bridge by now to wait for the steam charter that was due. Quite honestly, I was surprised that any other fools ventured out on this desperately miserable morning!

222022, EM 08.01 London St. Pancras-Corby (terminated at Kettering) (1M11, 8L), Wellingborough Finedon Road bridge
222022 leaves Wellingborough and is about to pass under the Finedon Road bridge with the 08.01 1M11 London St. Pancras to Corby, a journey of just over an hour. Unfortunately, this working was 8 minutes late to Kettering and promptly terminated. I wonder if any alternative arrangements were made for Corby passengers given the unpleasant conditions?

222005, EM 08.15 London St. Pancras-Nottingham (1D12, 10L), Wellingborough Finedon Road bridge
Meridian 222005 passes the site of the old Wellingborough Shed (15A) and yard in the trees in the background as it forms the 08.15 London St. Pancras to Nottingham working. These Meridians have become stable workhorses for the MML . They may be a little plasticky, a bit dull and noisy for passengers but they are reliable.

70013, outward leg of The Yorkshireman , 06.10 Ealing Broadway-York (1Z57), Wellingborough Finedon Road bridge
I was really hoping for a better shot than this! With the relatively still air when I left home I thought that the exhaust would be higher and straight behind the engine. However, the wind had got up a bit and caused the exhaust to drift and hide the train! Due to the effort I made to get over to Wellingborough on this utterly miserable morning I have included this picture. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' hauls 'The Yorkshireman' railtour from Ealing Broadway to York running as 1Z57. It is seen on the down slow line accelerating away from Wellingborough towards Harrowden Junction on its journey north.
