Andy and I enjoyed a two-day trip composed of a return visit to the Oakham area to enjoy some semaphore and signal box action followed by a great run out on the Verney Venturer railtour. Between the two activities we stayed at Nuneaton, making for a far more relaxed start to the day of the railtour thanks to Premier Inn and enjoying our now customary curry.

Andy picked me up at home followed by a leisurely drive to Oakham in the customary blue Micra now showing 145,000 miles on the odometer! We re-visited the boxes between Oakham and Melton Mowbray followed by visiting the freight only and partially mothballed Leicester to Burton line. Here I managed no fewer than three signal box cops. This seems crazy given that they are no further than sixty miles from home! We finished off the day in Nuneaton where we stayed the night prior to the following day's railtour. |

Postponed from November 2024, the re-scheduled Verney Venturer charter was billed as a first being the maiden fare-paying passenger train to traverse the heavily delayed East-West rail link between Bicester and Milton Keynes. It was a shame that the weather did not play ball being incredibly wet for most of the day but being cocooned in a nice warm Mk. II coach this did not bother us that much! As usual with charters, I did not take very many photographs. |
