My final trip out of the year (and a record number it was too even beating the COVID-19 year of 2020) found me locally photographing the weekly Network Rail test train. However, rather than the NMT HST set usually seen it was one of their video inspection unit single-car DMUs.

To end the year another strike-riven day was affecting all Avanti services. With the driver's pay deal settled earlier in the year, this dispute involved guards (train managers in modern parlance) and rest day working pay parity with managers. AWC were running a basic service with hourly services to and from London between their principle stations. One of these services, the 11.55 Manchester to Euston passes through Roade cutting worked by 390137.

153311, 12.28 Derby RTC-London Euston (2Z30, 8E), Hyde Road bridge
With its bright light illuminating the track below, 153311 passes Roade. The video inspection unit was running instead of the more common NMT HST that usually passes this spot on a Tuesday as the 2Z30 12.28 Derby to Euston.
