The passage of a veteran Class 56, even if it was a light engine, was worth taking a walk from home despite it interrupting home decorating - much to the disapproval of my wife!

Class 221, VT 08.55 Holyhead-London Euston & Class 390, site of Roade station
A passing of Virgin West Coast services at the site of Roade's former station. To the left a Class 390 heads north whilst an unidentified Class 221 Voyager passes south working the 08.55 Holyhead to London Euston service.

Class 390, VT 10.35 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston, site of Roade station
Poking my camera over the raised parapet of, what is known locally as Gravel bridge in Roade, sees an unidentified Class 390 speeding south working the 10.35 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston service. I was glad to get away from some serious home decorating on such a lovely summer's day, far too nice to be inside!

350265, LM 10.02 Crewe-London Euston, site of Roade station
Running 'fast' in the second part of its journey, 350265 passes Roade working London Midland's 10.02 Crewe to Euston service. Hard to believe that there was, until 1964, a four-platform station occupying the spot where the Desiro is passing. All platforms were linked by a footbridge approximately where the second electrification pylon is that linked across to a small station building where the greenery is on the far right. The station master's house still stands with its gable end and chimney to the top of the photograph.

350263, LM 10.54 Birmingham New Street-London Euston, site of Roade station
London Midland's 350263 passes Roade working the 10.54 Birmingham New Street to Euston service. These reliable Desiros operate almost all London Midland services on this route with just a handful of ageing Class 321s supplementing during peak times.

92030, 11.43 Wembley Yard-DIRFT (6B41), site of Roade station
The daily 6B41 11.43 Wembley to Daventry water train passes Roade hauled by 92030 'De Falla Ashford'. This is a regular and reliable lunchtime working in this location and produces some interesting locomotives often being, but not always, Class 92 hauled. Earlier in the morning the train starts from Dollands Moor running as 6B20 after coming through the tunnel the previous night.

56311, 11.10 Washwood Heath-Wembley Yard (0Z56), site of Roade station
Formally numbered 56057 but now running as 56311 passes light engine through Roade on a warm summer's lunchtime. British American Railway Services (BARS) operates this locomotive under their Devon & Cornwall Railways (DCR) brand. It is working the 0Z56 11.10 Washwood Heath to Wembley Yard probably heading to London to operate one of Colas' various contracts in the London area.

Class 390, VT 11.30 London Euston-Glasgow Central, site of Roade station
An unidentified eleven-car Class 390 Pendolino passes Roade working the 11.30 Euston to Glasgow Anglo Scottish service. The relay room half hidden by the uncontrolled vegetation is located where the original LNW signal box stood. This was a double-manned box and must have been a very busy and intense place to work.
