Despite the relentless dull and grey weather that had been prevailing for over a week now I was determined to get out on this Saturday morning! There was plenty to see including a Class 86 hauled charter, two returning units from Wolverton and a light Class 37. Also, to celebrate my one hundredth trip of 2024 I was able to have a Costa coffee and breakfast!

66755, 06.21 Hams Hall-London Gateway (4L12, 17E), Wolverton station
In appalling light, 66755 'Tony Berkeley OBE RFG Chairman 1997-2018' passes through Wolverton at speed leading the 4L12 06.21 Hams Hall to London Gateway GBRf service. This image has needed a fair amount of work to make it presentable but, even so, it is far from the best quality with considerable digital noise.

86259, outward leg of The Blackpool Can-Can, 07.13 London Euston-Blackpool North (1Z86, 5L), Wolverton station
There were plans that this UK Railtours charter was supposed to be hauled by 86101 or 86401 but with 86259 not in the mix. However, things conspired against the organisers so having to resort to the old favourite and reliable 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' to haul the train. Running, as usual, as 1Z86 The Blackpool Can Can left Euston at 07.13 heading for Blackpool North where it arrived just five minutes late. The train is seen on the down slow line passing through Wolverton station.

66415, 03.14 Garston-Felixstowe North (4L97, 24E), Wolverton station
66415 'You Are Never Alone' sweeps through Wolverton station on what is, yet again, another miserable and grey November day. The Freightliner locomotive is leading the 4L97 03.14 Garston to Felixstowe North service which appears to be well loaded. However, after the first few wagons had passed with boxes loaded the rest of the train was completely empty.

165118, 09.50 Wolverton Centre Sidings-Reading TMD (5Q74, 5E), Milton Keynes station
Having been receiving attention at Wolverton Works by Gemini Rail 165118 returns to its western haunts as the 09.50 Wolverton Centre Sidings to Reading TMD. The train is seen passing MIlton Keynes station in very poor lighting. As an indication of how poor it is notice the illumination of the running-in sign glowing nicely even though it has just past 10.00!

37884, 10.37 Old Oak Depot-Derby RTC (0M57, 32E), site of Roade station
The 10.37 Old Oak Common Depot to Derby RTS 0M57 light engine move passes Roade worked by 37884 'Cepheus'. There seems to be a lot of these light engine moves at the moment as various stock is moved around the country. I always wonder why these trains travel on the WCML as far as Nuneaton where they reverse to get to Leicester via Narborough rather than take the Marston Vale line from Bletchley to Bedford to then take the MML to Derby.

323313, 12.45 Wolverton Centre Sidings-Allerton Depot (5N36, 3E), Hyde Road bridge
The second unit to leave Wolverton Works today heads north through Roade. This time it's a former West Midlands Trains' unit that having come off lease with them is heading for further use with Northern. Gemini Rail appears to have done a good job with 323113 looking very smart in its new livery passing as the 5N36 12.45 Wolverton Centre Sidings to Alerton Depot.
