For our summer trip this year Andy and headed to the far northwest. Our two-day trip found us just fringing into southwest Scotland (vowing to return at some time in the future*) and then surveying the magnificent Cumbrian Coast line with an overnight stay in a questionable hotel in the centre of Lancaster. On the return, we took a short afternoon/evening detour into Merseyside. We travelled in Andy's battle-worn Nissan Micra automatic that despite its looks, served us well! Finally, for once the weather played ball with some good sunshine.

After a ridiculously early start from Northamptonshire, we travelled non-stop finding ourselves in Penrith's station carpark for a burger van breakfast at 08.30! The rest of the day fund us, initially, heading into southwest Scotland getting just north of Dumfries and then heading along the magnificent Cumbrian Coast. Overnight accommodation, once we found the entrance of Lancaster's crazy one-way system, was on a seedy but very cheap hotel on Market Street. However, the evening curry with the customary late evening visit to the station made up for the accommodation! |

The second day of our two-day trip to Cumbria and the northwest dawned bright and sunny in Lancaster. We briefly partially retraced our steps back towards Cumbria but still missed out some stations so Andy vowed that he would return to cop them in the not-too-distant future. We then headed towards home via the Fylde coast and the very northern part of Merseyside. A great couple of days away with Andy with an awful lot accomplished. |
