Working only half a day due to a dental appointment I was able to get out for two interesting workings in the afternoon. Another HST move was followed by a Greater Anglia test train - again, another smashing afternoon.

43055 & 43050, 13.29 Southall LSL-Crewe HS (5Z47, 7L), site of Road station
Making a fine site as it passes Roade on a superb September afternoon one of LSL's mock Midland Pullman HST sets works the 5Z47 Southall LSL to Crewe HS. The leading power car is 43055 with 43050 'Loch Morar' partially obscured at the rear. The set had been used over the previous three days on the West Highland Pullman charter so was no doubt in need of a service on its return to its base at Crewe.

66121, 14.59 DIRFT-Dollands Moor (6O71, 6E), former A508 bridge
The empty water train passes Roade at the southern end of the famous cutting led by EWS liveried 66121. On arrival in Kent, the 14.59 Daventy to Dollands Moor will pass through the tunnel to the continent heading south to collect more plastic bottles of mineral water for resale throughout the UK>

66020, 11.59 Burton-ot-Wetmore-Acton TC (6V06, 1E), former A508 bridge
The 11.59 Burton-ot-Wetmore to Acton empty spoil train passe Roade hauled by 66020. The balancing down working takes spoil from HS2 works around west London for disposal but should not bring any back. However, a close examination of the photograph reveals that the rear three jumbo box wagons reveals that they are still fully loaded!

805011 & 805003, VT 12.48 Holyhead-London Euston (1A50, 7L), site of Roade station
805011 and 805003 pass Roade in some warm September sunshine working the 12.48 Holyhead to Euston AWC service. The steady introduction of new sets on to the WCML has meant that the site and sound of Class 221 Voyagers have now been confined to just a few services. By the winter timetable change in December Avanti is hopeful that all Voyagers will be returned to Beacon Rail.

720139 & 720502, 13.53 Rugby-Wembley Yard (via Stafford) (5Q28, RT), site of Roade station
Testing, mileage accumulation and staff training continues apace using paths on the busy WCML. Newly built at Derby (Bombardier). 720139 and 720502 pass Roade on the up fast line working the 13.53 Rugby to Wembley Yard via reversal at Stafford. As can be seen, these units are Greater Anglia branded so I suspect that they are pretty close to entering service as in the early days of testing most units operate with no vinyls identifying their TOC.
