At last, a bright and summy late spring day! I popped out from home with my son to Roade cutting to capture the passage of the outward Canterbury Tales charter.

Class 390, VT 06.30 Glasgow Central-London Euston, Roade cutting An unidentified Class 390 Pendolino passes south through Roade cutting working Virgin's 06.30 Glasgow Central to Euston service. It makes a welcome change to present a photograph taken in the sunshine as so far this spring we have not seen very much of it and tomorrow is the first day of meteorological summer! 57304, 09.30 London Euston-Stafford (0Z20), Roade Cutting With Virgin having outsourced their Thunderbird work to DRS the Class 57s are now seen along the length of the WCML in their new livery. DRS move the fleet around at various times throughout the week and this is the case here with 57304 'Pride of Cheshire' (formally 'Gordon Tracy') passing Roade as the 0Z20 09.30 Euston to Stafford move. 57316, outward leg of The CanterburyTales Express, 05.29 Skipton-Dover (1Z80), Roade cutting Former Virgin Thunderbird 57304 (ex 'Gordon Tracy') passes through Roade cutting leading the outward leg of the 1Z80 Canterbury Tales charter. The charter left Skipton at the antisocial time of 05.29 and was heading for Dover with options to leave the train at Canterbury. A Virgin Pendolino heads northwards just to the left of the image. 57314, outward leg of The Canterbury Tales Express, 05.29 Skipton-Dover (1Z80), Roade cutting The 'going-away' shot of the 05.29 Skipton to Dover Canterbury Tales charter is rather backlit as it passes through Roade cutting. However, it is worthwhile as I have few images of the ATW-painted Class 57s that have now been replaced by Class 67s. Still wearing its ATW paint scheme but minus any branding, former Virgin Thunderbird 57314 (ex 'Firefly'), brings up the rear of the charter.
