Unusually the Cumbrian Mountain Express was running on a weekday. Never one to miss an opportunity to take a photograph of a charter I went to work via Victoria bridge hoping that it would be running to time - it was!

92039, 03.06 Dollands Moor-Irvine (6S94), Victoria bridge
This is a train that passes along the southern section of the WCML most weekdays but it is one that I have very few photographs of as it usually passes in the dark. However, today it is running some ninety minutes late so a photograph can be captured. 90039 'Johann Strauss' leads the 6S94 03.06 Dollands Moor to Irvine china clay slurry train. This is a very heavy train often weighing in towards two thousand tonnes meaning that only the power of a Class 92 is able to haul it over the torturous gradients of Cumbria. If one is unavailable, it has to be a pair of Class 66s, but this is not common. The train is seen approaching Roade from Victoria bridge.

90039, SR 19.50 Fort William, 20.44 Inverness & 21.43 Aberdeen-London Euston (1M16), Victoria bridge
The up Highland Sleeper usually passes Roade at about 06.50, today it is a little late passing at just before 07.00 - not bad considering the distance it travels and that it is composed of three separate trains that all have to come together in Edinburgh in the dead of night! EWS branded 90039 leads the 1M16 (19.50 ex Fort William, 20.44 ex Inverness and 21.43 ex Aberdeen) sleeper.

321416, unidentified up working, Victoria bridge
London Midalnd's 321416 leads two other sets on an up commuter service past Roade. These units have been on these lines for twenty-four years now and have proved to be extremely reliable but their time is up with them now just being used on a few peak services as here with the Class 350s operating the vast majority of trains.

86259, outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express, 06.26 London Euston-Carlisle, (1Z82), Victoria bridge
Unusually, The Cumbrian Mountain Express charter is running on a weekday rather than a Saturday. However, running to almost the same times meant that I could capture it before work making me just a little late. The 06.26 Euston to Carlisle is led, as usual, by 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' seen passing Roade on the down fast line. The cloudy weather here in the south made way for a super late spring day 'up-north' later in the day with plenty of pictures posted online of LMS Princess Coronation Class 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' leading the train with a particular favourite of mine to be found at...... https://www.flickr.com/photos/48612927@N08/8799723514/

90041, 22.00 Coatbridge-Felixstowe North (4L89), Victoria Bridge
Just before heading off for work 90041 appeared around the curve in the distance leading the 4L89 22.00 Coatbridge to Felixstowe North Freightliner. This service is always electric hauled and can often produce a pair of veteran Class 86s.
