Whilst my wife and son prepared themselves for the day ahead I nipped down Kensington's High Street to Olympia station to capture the passage of the 1Z64 Channel Coast Express charter.

57313, outward leg The Channel Coast Express, 06.53 Doncaster-Brighton (1Z64, 9L), Kensington Olympia station
Former Virgin Thunderbird 57313 (previously named 'Tracy Island') hauls the outward leg of The Channel Coast Express charter. Operated by West Coast the train left Doncaster at 06.53 ending up at Brighton giving passengers nearly five hours to enjoy the south coast resort before heading for home but with 57316 leading.

57316, outward leg The Channel Coast Express, 06.53 Doncaster-Brighton (1Z64, 9L), Kensington Olympia station
Snaking its way through Central London at Kensington Olympia station 57316 (Formally named 'Fab 1') is pictured at the rear of the 1Z64 Channel Coast Express charter. Passengers left Doncaster at just before 07.00 with the destination of Brighton reached just before noon (or just after it as the train was delayed by some thirteen minutes). There were a number of 'normals' on Olympia station but none took any notice as the charter passed more engrossed on the 'phones such is the world we live in today!

66112, 08.12 Dollands Moor-Margam (6V13), Kensington Olympia station
This is a train that I have never photographed so I was pleased when it appeared within a few minutes of the passage of the charter seen previously. It is a tricky train to photograph as Monday to Friday it passes through London in the depths of the night with it only running in daylight on a Saturday morning. 66112 leads a rake of empty IHA bogie-covered steel coil carrier wagons as the 6V13 08.12 Dollands Moor to Margam. In the other direction, it takes South Wales-produced steel to the continent for the Broekman Group in Rotterdam or Myriad in Maubeuge France via Calais Fréthun running on alternate days.

378217, LO 10.31 Clapham Junction-Willesden High Level, Kensington Olympia station
One of the recently extended (by one carriage) London Overground Capitalstars leaves Kensington Olympia station. 378217 is working the 10.31 Clapham Junction to Willesden High Level shuttle, terminating short due to engineering works. The large shed behind the train is the former Motorail terminal that is now in use as a car park.

378201, LO 10.05 Stratford-Clapham Junction, Kensington Olympia station
A study of functionality at Kensington Olympia station. Capitalstar 378201 waits to depart with the 10.05 Stratford to Clapham Junction service. These trains may not set the railway world on fire but they are efficient, reliable and provide an excellent service for Londoners.
