Having undergone an overhaul at Alstom's Widness facility a SWR Class 458 was returning back its DC territory towed by a Class 69.

221101 & 221106, VT 15.32 Chester-London Euston (1A56, 1L), A508 bridge Could this one be the LAST? 221101 and 221106 pass Roade, seen from the former A508 road bridge, working Avanti's 15.32 Chester to Euston service. It can't be long now until the entire fleet of thirteen Class 805 Everos are all in service banishing the Voyagers from this line, but will this be forever; it looks like some may return but with a new operator later in the year! 66729, 13.57 Birch Coppice-London Gateway (4L68, RT), A508 bridge The 4L68 13.57 Birch Coppice to London Gateway freight passes through Roade worked by GBRf's 66729 'Derby County'. The train is about to pass under the former A508 road bridge which is now a far more pleasant place to stand and take photographs since the opening of the village's bypass last September. Notice the embankment clearance to the right of the train. This has been undertaken in the last few weeks with stabilisation work then taking place. 69009 & 458410, 13.11 Widnes Transport Tech-Wembley Yard (5Q62, RT), A508 bridge I am going to take some time getting used to the look and livery of the re-purposed Class 56s! 69009 now named 'Western Consort' takes its name from the former Western Region hydraulic D1065 that I last photographed in 1977 on the scrap lines at Swindon, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/23615749804/d1057-western-pathfinder-d1001-western. The 'new' locomotive is seen passing through Roade leading the 13.11 Widness Transport Tech to Wembley Yard stock move transferring SWR's 458410 back to its Southern haunts. The unit has been extensively refurbished by Alstom with it returning to its original four-car formation. On either side of the unit is a pair of former Class 508 EMUs now used as translator coaches, the leading one is 64707 'Labezerin' with 64664 'Llwet' at the rear. 66303, 15.44 Hams Hall-Southampton Western Docks (4O32, 38L), site of Roade station With the continued closure of the line through Oxford due to issues with the construction of the new under-bridge on Botley Road freight is being diverted via the already pretty congested WCML. 66303 leads the 4O32 15.44 Hams Hall to Southampton Western Docks service through Roade on this warm late July evening. 66303 is one of just five 66/3s originally ordered by Fastline that are now operated by GBRf but note that this example has no branding applied. 805001, VT 16.36 London Euston-Crewe (3K97, 5E), site of Roade station I am not quite sure why Avanti is operating this 3K97 empty stock move but it is now a regular train through Roade in the early evening. 805001 is seen passing the site of the old station as the 16.36 Euston to Crewe in some lovely evening summer sunshine. 66506, 12.56 Southampton MCT-Trafford Park (4M61, RT), site of Roade station Another diverted Freightliner passes Roade led by 66506 'Crewe Regeneration'. Normally the 12.56 Southampton MCT to Trafford Park would be passing through the picturesque Cherwell Valley but due to the disruption caused by the construction of a new bridge just south of Oxford station, it is off-route. It makes things more interesting for us enthusiasts to see services such as 4M61 but as for the travelling public of Oxford, I am not so sure!
