A very straightforward journey from Northampton to Brighton via Euston and Victoria. We travelled via Gatwick Express south from London, the first time I have travelled on one of their trains.

Old and new side by side at Northampton. Before too long the Class 730 Aventras will enter service on routes between London, Birmingham and Crewe meaning that the Class 350/2 Desiros can be returned to Porterbrook. Our train south to London arrives at Northampton led by set 350402 working the 08.36 Birmingham to Euston service. 730213 will soon leave as the 2Q91 07.46 Wembley Yard to Crewe test run.

Click-clack clock, platform 13, London Victoria station
Victoria station still is the home to a number of NSE click-clack clocks. These mechanical devices represent a pre-digital time and were familiar to all who travelled throughout the Network South East area during the 1980s. This particular example is halfway along platform thirteen at Victoria.

387224, GX 11.29 London Victoria-Brighton (1W50, 5L), London Victoria station
Gatwick Express operates twenty-two Electrostars on their Victoria to Brighton route via, of course, Gatwick Airport replacing the elegant and well-liked Class 442s. We travelled aboard 387224 working the 11.29 Victoria to Brighton service which is seen prior to departure from London.

Tickets, Northampton-Brighton
Our outward tickets from Northampton to Brighton. At just under £50 each the cost of travelling to and from Brighton from Northampton is acceptable. My wife and I made a conscious decision to travel through central London this time via a dash along the Victoia line from Euston. This as an alternative to the previous journey taken on Thameslink from St. Pancras via a short walk along Euston Road. My wife seemed to indicate that she preferred the route taken this time.
