The prospect of a Deltic passing through Roade cutting close to home on a weekday afternoon was enough to encourage me to do the unthinkable and take some unofficial time off work! I left early and headed straight for the cutting and stood there in my suit and tie waiting for the convoy to pass of which the Deltic was, hopefully, leading!

Following the spring Mid-Hants diesel gala last weekend, the visiting locomotives return to the East Lancashire Railway as the 0Z20 08.52 Alton to Castleton Hopwood. The Deltic Preservation Society's 55009 'Alycidon' leads the collection of locos. with 33109 'Captain Bill Smith RNR' behind. With 55009 'Alycidon' under power and leading the collection 33109 'Captain Bill Smith RNR' is second from the front. From the rear is 'heavyweight' 37901, 20087 and then 47402. All the locomotives had been involved in the excellent Mid Hants. diesel gala the previous weekend.
