With the Manchester derby taking place at Wembley in the form of the FA Cup Final many fans were travelling from the northwest to London. Avanti West Coast put on an additional relief service from Piccadilly to Euston in addition to LSL operating a charter direct to Wembley. I photographed this on its outward run as well as a few other items of interest at various times during the day.

37601, 07.12 Leicester LIP-Ilford EMUD (0L50, 4E), site of Roade station
Photographs of light engines do not usually get me specially out to the lineside but when the subject is veteran 37601 'Perseus' and the sun is out I make an effort! Running as 0L50 the 07.12 Leicester LIP to Ilford EMU Depot is seen passing the site of Roade's station. I was hoping that later in the day it would return hauling an EMU, which it did, but, alas via the MML and too late to get out and capture an image.

86259, 08.41 Manchester Piccadilly-Wembley Central (1Z84, 1E), Victoria bridge
I am more usually used to photographing 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' heading north leading the regular Winter/Cumbrian Mountain/Coast Express charters but here it is heading south at Victoria bridge just south of Roade. On this sunny spring morning, it is leading the 1Z84 08.41 Manchester Piccadilly to Wembley Central footex charter operated by LSL. The charter is taking supporters from Manchester for the FA Cup Final that would see a surprising result with United beating City 2-1.

86401, 08.41 Manchester Piccadilly-Wembley Central (1Z84, 1E), Victoria bridge
Bringing up the rear of the 08.41 Manchester Piccadilly to Wembley Central footex charter 86401' Mons Meg' is seen passing Victoia bridge between Roade and Ashton. Out of sight at the front 86259 'Peter Pan/Les Roass' is leading the train. With the FA Cup being an all-Manchester affair for only the second time in history I am intrigued as to how the train was marshalled. In the modern age of football were fans mixing quite happily throughout or were parts of the train allocated to either United or City fans; advice, please. In a surprise result, United were the winners beating their City rivals 2-1.

66729, 13.16 Garston Car terminal-Dagenham Docks (6L48, 40E), Victoria bridge
The 6L48 Garston to Dagenham Docks empty cartics rattles its way past Victoria bridge just south of Roade having run to the Merseyside car terminal the previous day loaded with new Ford products that had all been imported from mainland Europe rather than made here in the UK. This train is hauled by GBRf's 66729 'Derby County'; a relatively light load for its three thousand two hundred horse power.

I am not entirely sure as to the history and type of these car carrier wagons seen passing Victoria bridge in Northamptonshire as part of the 6L48 13.16 Garston to Dagenham Docks empty Ford train. However, I have observed on many occasions the large number of chocks scattered around the beds of the wagons and often wondered how safe they are like that. My worry is that some close to the edge of the bed could vibrate off the side of the wagon and on to the track causing a significant hazard.

66707, 15.44 Bescot Yard-Wolverton (9G52, 11L), Victoria bridge
In preparation for some Bank Holiday weekend engineering works 66707 'Sir Sam Fay' leads the 15.44 Bescot Yard to Wolverton infrastructure working. After a run south to Bletchley the train would then return north to Woverton to be stabled until the work would commence. There a number of new track pannels towards the rear of the train suggesting the nature of the work.
