On the last day of being in my fifties, I took a walk across the fields from home to Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton. I pondered during the walk on how time seems to haemorrhaging at an ever-increasing rate. However, the superb warm spring weather made up a little for my mood!

66006, 11.15 Ditton-Dollands Moor (6O26, 6E), between Roade & Ashton
As I was walking down to my chosen spot to spend an hour or so watching the trains go by on this glorious spring afternoon I could hear the approach of the 6O26 11.15 Ditton to Dollands Moor service characterised by the noise from its IZA semi-permanently coupled four-wheeled Cargo Wagons. This relatively new flow that heads south through Northamptonshire led by 66006 usually also carries some JLR wagons from Halewood in its consist but not today.

90043 & 90006, 11.32 Felixstowe North-Ditton (4M87, 4E), Victoria bridge
As is common practice, the 4M87 11.32 Felixstowe to Ditton Freightliner service is seen passing between Roade and Ashton double-headed. Today on this glorious spring afternoon, perhaps heralding the start of some decent weather, 90043 leads 90006 'Roger Ford'. The contrast between the earlier green livery and the more recent orange makes for a stark contrast.

37608, 13.35 Oxley Carr-Wembley HS (0H72, 5L), Victoria bridge
Looking resplendent in its new but, in my eyes at least, garish livery 37608 'Andromeda' passes light engine past Victoria bridge just south of Roade as the 0H72 13.35 Oxley Carr to Wembley light engine move. The veteran Class 37, that will be sixty-three years old this summer, making it three years my senior tomorrow lives on again in yet another guise owned and operated by Rail Operations Group.

66716, 13.57 Birch Coppice-London Gateway (4L68, 1L), Victoria bridge
GBRf's 66716 'Locomotive & Carriage Institution Centenary 1911-2011' is seen passing Victoria bridge between the Northamptonshire villages of Raode and Ashton leading the 4L68 13.57 Birch Coppice to London Gateway afternoon service. As can be seen from this image, the afternoon is glorious now which is in stark contrast to a week previously that saw cold and wet weather that had characterised the previous month making people wonder if spring would ever arrive!
