Another wet morning dawned on the second day of spring! This did not stop me from getting out with hat and waterproof to see the steam-hauled Cheshireman charter. I had intentions of heading further afield to see the train but the weather curtailed my plans.

390123 works the 07.43 Euston to Liverpool Avanti service just north of the Buckinghamshire village of Castlethorpe. After the earlier rain, the sky is beginning to lighten up making a pleasant change from the weather of late.

350128 passes south working the 1Y10 07.06 Birmingham New Street to Euston service. It is passing a remote occupation bridge north of Castlethorpe access to which required a long walk in one direction on tracks or a very muddy shorter field walk in the other. Given the recent very wet weather, I chose the former longer route!

44871, outward leg of The Chesireman, 07.13 London Euston-Chester (1Z72, 6L), Castlethorpe SP790453
What a difference a quarter of an hour makes! From the time of taking the previous photograph, the light has been transformed with some blue sky allowing the sun to break through. Unfortunately, it is somewhat side-on for this location producing the ultimate in 'glint shots'! Producing a dramatic exhaust Black 5 44871 accelerates away from a signal check near Wolverton leading The Chesireman charter running as 1Z72. Steam charters on the very busy southern WCML are not particularly common so I always make the effort to get out and capture it. Notice the Pendolino speeding south passing the scene.
