An absolutely awful morning did not prevent me from taking my camera out to see a very late running Sleeper. After running some errands I was able then to see a much-publicised double steam move from Crewe to Southall.

92023, CS 20.45 Inverness & 21.43 Aberdeen-London Euston (1M16, 155L), Milton crossing
It's February 2024 so it must be raining then! With the month shaping up to be the wettest February on record, it is absolutely pouring with rain at Milton crossing just north of Roade cutting. The reason for making the effort to take what is a pretty awful photograph is the very late running Highland Sleeper running well over two hours late. 92203 is leading the 1M16 that ran into difficulties leaving Edinburgh. At least as a passenger, you can enjoy a long lie-in if this occurs but you may well miss the start of that all-important city business meeting!

221102 & 221113, VT 11.40 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G18, 1L), Roade cutting
Every time I take a photograph of an AWC Voyager I wonder how long I will be able to do so! Their replacement on the WCML is now over two years overdue and still, they run! 221102 and 221113 head north through Roade cutting working the 11.40 Euston to Birmingham service. Is there really not a spare Pendolino kicking around that could (and should) have worked this service entirely under the wires?

61306 & 46100, 08.55 Crewe HS-Southall LSL (5Z61, 11E), Roade cutting
At last a little bit of a respite from the rain in Roade cutting! Making a logistics move as 5Z61, the 08.55 Crewe HS to Southall LSL, is formed by 61307 'Mayflower' and 46100 'Royal Scott' and a support coach. Mayflower is working surprisingly hard given that 46100 was also in steam but I suspect not bringing much to the party!
