9. Class 319 scrap move-24.01.24

At last! I had been attempting to photograph a Class 319 scrap move on several occasions but had been thwarted by various issues such as late running, work clashes and cancellations but today it all came together but it was a shame that it was extremely dark being at just past eight in the morning! On my way to work, I paused at Victoria bridge to witness two more of these units making their final journey to South Wales for their appointment with the scrap man!

66522, 03.21 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, RT), Victoria bridge
In the grey half-light of a January morning 66522 leads the well-loaded 4L52 03.21 Garston to London Gateway Freightliner past Victoria bridge just south of Roade. Whilst the photograph will win no prizes for its technical quality, it makes up for this for its atmospherics; well, I think so anyway!

37884, 319457 & 319433, 07.58 Northampton EMD-Newport Docks (Sims Group) (5Q76, 59L), Victoria bridge
Nearly the end of the line for another pair of the venerable Class 319s. With the limited introduction to service of the Class 730s London Northwestern can dispose of the the 1980s BREL (York) constructed EMUs. Still wearing their London Midland liveries 319457 and 319433 are towed by 37884 'Cepheus' at a slow pace past Victoria bridge just south of Roade as the 07.58 Northampton EMD (Kingsheath) to Sims Group's yard in Newport Docks running as 5Q76. Apologies for the poor technical quality of this photograph but I had been attempting to capture one of these scrap trains for some time and the timings of this one were a bit marginal in terms of the time of day!

319433, 319457 & 37884, 07.58 Northampton EMD-Newport Docks (Sims Group) (5Q76, 59L), Victoria bridge
The rear of the 5Q76 07.58 Northampton EMD to Sims Group at Newport Docks passes Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton. At the rear is London North Western's (wearing its former London Midland livery) 319433 with 319457 towards the front where 37884 'Cepheus' is leading. Making their final journey along the WCML the units will then head west from London to South Wales for scrapping. Whilst an average car makes around £250 for scrap at the moment I wonder what a four-car EMU makes? Incidentally, the rear information screen of 319433 was in operation despite not being visible in this image; I wonder what it was displaying 'not in service' I wonder?
