I timed my Saturday afternoon walk to coincide with the passage of yet another Class 730 testing run. After a week of extremely cold weather, it was distinctly warmer on this day despite the grey skies.

66122, 08.02 Tilbury-DIRFT (4M07, RT), Roade cutting Passing through Roade cutting the down 'Tesco Express' is seen led by DRS' 66122. With recent terrorist activity in the Gulf of Aden and shipping having to take lengthy diversions around Africa Tesco will be one of the many corporations affected meaning that trains such as 4M07 may become less frequent in the short term. 390130, VT 11.40 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H67, 2L), site of Roade station 390130 passes the site of Roade's former station working the 1H67 11.40 Euston to Manchester Avanti service. After a week of extremely cold weather with penetrating frosts things were very much on the turn with a warmer westerly wind blowing but one that had introduced much more cloud. 730016, 11.18 London Euston-Bletchley (5Q91, 31E), site of Roade station Yet another Class 730 undergoes testing and mileage accumulation passing Roade. 730016 is working the 5Q91 11.18 Euston to Bletchley that will reverse at Northampton returning past this spot on the up slow line in about twenty minutes. The introduction to service of the Class 730s has been much delayed with a few now operating the Tring/Watford to and from Euston services since November 2023 but wearing the West Midlands Railway livery as seen here.
