I managed a quick photograph of the Cumbrian Mountain Express (unlike last week's debacle!) before heading to Northampton to drop my son and some of his friends off at the station for their Scout trip to London.

Looking particularly smart and sharp against the brown dullness of a late winter's morning 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' heads north past Victoria bridge near the village of Roade leading the outward leg of The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express charter from Euston to Carlisle. Thankfully and unlike last week, it was running to time as again I had personal commitments soon after the picture was taken, the charter was led by 60009 'Union of South Africa' on arrival into Carnforth.

66504, down Freightliner, Northampton station car park
A down Freightliner service approaches Northampton taken from the station car park led by 66504. This has been a favoured spot and a popular meeting point for the local enthusiasts for many years but with the new station about to be constructed, there are rumours that it is going to be closed off from the general public and enthusiasts alike.

London Midland's 350127 leaves Northampton station (past the bridge) working the 07.33 Birmingham New Street to Euston service. Close observation of the first window of the leading carriage reveals a very neat reflection of the station's elevated station sign almost like I planned it!

350111, LM 07.54 London Euston-Birmingham New Street, Northampton station car park
It's just gone 09.00 as 350111 arrives at Northhampton, seen from the station's car park, working the 07.54 Euston to Birmingham New Street. The line heading off to the left once led to Bridge Street station to then continue eastwards to Wellingborough, Bedford and beyond. It also led to Northampton's steam shed (4B) leading to the alternative route joining the Weedon 'old' line at Blisworth.
