A quick scan of RTT at breakfast time revealed all sorts of juicy workings passing my home village of Roade during the day. Of course, some did not run but a number did so I took no fewer than three separate trips out during the day despite the deteriorating weather!

66544, 10.59 New Bilton-Willesden Euroterminal (4R98, 15E), site of Roade station
Is this a record; the second day on the trot with the sun shining? 66544 passes through Roade leading the 10.59 New Bilton (Rugby) to Willesden Euroterminal empty wagons running as 4R98. The outward train I believe carries spoil from HS2 excavations in West London to be recycled.

66747, 06.53 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6M45, 15L), site of Roade station
Making a change the 6M45 Dollands Moor to Daventry 'water train' is today hauled by GBRf's (but with Newell & Wright branding) 66747 'Made in Sheffield'. This is a DB Cargo-operated train but of late they have been hiring in GBRf locomotives on a regular basis. The train is seen passing through Roaderather sid lit by the welcome winter sunshine.

66752, 09.28 Dagenham Docks-Garston Car Terminal (6X43, 24E), site of Roade station
The first Ford car train of 2024 passes through Roade led by 66752 'The Hoosier State'. This train is usually bi-weekly with the empties returning as an evening working that can usually only be photographed during the longer summer days, see... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30015904775/x88006-15-49-garston-dagenham-6l48 Conveying a wide variety of Ford products, all made on the continent but 'finished' on English soil, the 6X43 09.28 Dagenham Docks to Garston is seen passing Roade. Unfortunately, the bright start to the morning appears to be fading with a veil of grey cloud now enveloping the sky with the weather reverting to type!

As the 6X43 Dagenham Docks to Garston Ford train passes on the down slow line Avanti's 11.16 Euston to Blackpool North overtakes it on the fast line. Both trains are seen passing Roade in Northamptonshire with one of the village's two water towers standing in the background.

66420, 09.52 Lawley Street-Felixstowe North (4L99, 7L), site of Roade station
The 4L99 09.52 Lawley Street to Felixstowe Freightliner passes through Roade at the site of the village's former station worked by 66420. On this occasion, the train was well-loaded with plenty of boxes behind and a smartly presented locomotive up front.

323212, 11.48 Soho LMD-Wolverton Centre Sidings (5J70, 2E), Hyde Road bridge
West Midlands Trains is preparing to dispose of its Class 323 fleet due to the arrival of the Class 730s - whenever that may happen! Some of the fleet are heading north to Northern to augment their operations with the withdrawal of the Class 319s underway. For this to happen work is being undertaken by Wolverton Works meaning that units head south of their usual area of operation. Here, 323212 formally named 'Bromsgrove' passes through Roade as the 5J70 11.48 Soho Depot to Wolverton Centre Sidings

66424, 10.02 Tilbury-DIRFT (4M07, 4E), Hyde Road bridge
Regular DRS performer 66424 leads the 4M07 10.02 Tilbury to Daventry Tesco Express service through Roade taken from the village's Hyde Road bridge. As usual, this train was well loaded delivering supermarket products in from abroad to the food giant's huge UK distribution centre at Daventry.

66434, 13.37 DIRFT-Tilbury (4L48, RT), site of Roade station
Having seen the incoming 4M07 Tesco Express a little earlier its balancing working the 4L48 13.27 Daventry (DIRFT) to Tilbury Docks is seen also passing Roade in the opposite direction to the previous photograph. The train is led by DRSs 66434 which is not one of the most common of their fleet when it comes to photographs in my collection.

66418, 11.48 Lawley Street-London Gateway (4L46, 4E), site of Roade station
66418 ‘Patriot In Memory of Fallen Railway Employees’ leads the 11.48 Lawley Street to London Gateway Freightliner through a now very grey and dull winter's afternoon. This was a disappointment after the bright and sunny morning.

43465 & 43468, 13.09 Wembley HS-Kidderminster SVR (0Z44, RT), site of Roade station
With the light failing fast railadventure (sic) HST power cars 43465 and 43468 pass Roade as the 13.09 Wembley Yard to Kidderminster SVR. They are returning to their base following the delivery of a barrier train the previous day, see... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30049736339/x43468-43465-10-24-kidderminster It is good to see that a train design now fast approaching being fifty years old (2026) is still in revenue service now repurposed for logistics work.
