My wife and I took our traditional New Year's Day trip to the Northampton and Lamport Railway. Unfortunately, their extension south has not yet opened but I read on their website that the Transport and Works Act Order has been submitted to the DfT so maybe 2024 will be the year that they can run end-to-end services into their new station at Boughton.

31289, 13.00 Pitsford & Brampton return, Pitsford Sidings Enjoying our mince pie and glass of orange juice in lieu of a sherry (my wife is doing dry January and I don't drink) we travelled aboard the 13.00 Pitsford and Brampton return service. It is seen getting away from its southerly stop point at Pitsford Sidings with 31289 'Pheonix' leading. It was a shame that the festive services were not steam-hailed this year as this is what the 'normal fare-paying' public come to expect from a heritage line. Cab, 31289, 14.00 Pitsford & Brampton return, Pitsford & Brampton station The cab of 31289 'Pheonix' is seen at Pitsford and Brampton station looking spik and span. The Class 31 is a long-term resident of the heritage line and seems to be reliable and their 'go-to' locomotive but it seems a shame that it wears an odd shade of blue. 31289, 14.00 Pitsford & Brampton return, Pitsford & Brampton station Wearing its 2P20 reporting number 31289 'Pheonix' is seen at Pitsford and Brampton station ready to work the 14.00 return 'mince pie special'. The headcode chosen is for an 'ordinary passenger train, mixed train, or breakdown train or snow plough not going to clear the line' but I cannot find out what the P would refer to here in Northamptonshire (BR Midland Region), local advice anybody? Tickets, Pitsford & Brampton return Our tickets to travel on the Northampton and Lamport Railway were complimented by an orange juice and mince pie. Notice that the tickets are in different colours. My wife passed a birthday milestone this year thus meaning that she is eligible for discount travel on this preserved line. By next New Year, both tickets will be the same colour!
