After the sparkling weather of last week when I went to photograph the Cumbrian Mountain Express this Saturday was very cold and dismal. Still, a Class 86 on the mainline is a Class 86 on the mainline so I had to go out and record its passage!

Class 390, VT 07.30 London Euston-Glasgow Central, Milton Crossing
In pouring rain at Milton crossing between Roade and Blisworth an unidentified Class 390 pendolino heads north working the 07.30 London Euston to Glasgow Central service. Not the finest quality photograph but I like taking images in more challenging weather showing the full range of the network's operations.

Class 390, VT 06.35 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston, Milton Crossing
A Virgin Pendolino heads south towards London at Milon crossing between Road and Blisworth working the 06.35 Manchester-Euston service. Whilst some call it graffiti art I see it more as wanton vandalism of the relay box seen in the foreground.

86259, outward leg of The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express 2, 07.06 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Milton Crossing
Preserved AL6 86259 'Les Ross/ Peter Pan' certainly brightens up a dismal grey morning at Milton Crossing between Roade and Blisworth. It is leading, appropriately, the 1Z86 Cumbrian Mountain Express that left Euston at 07.06 heading, ultimately, for Carlise with 60009 'Union of South Africa' taking over from the electric at Carnforth.
