It's the third day of the year and there's already steam around on the mainline, if only in the form of a piloted stock move! I nipped out from home in my Nissan Qashqai to Wilson's Crossing near Kingsthorpe to the north of Northampton. The weather played ball which made a change with lovely strong winter lighting.

47500 & 34067, Southall-Carnforth ECS (5Z57), Wilson's Crossing After being at this location for some time taking photographs in bright sunshine when the main course arrived it had clouded up! West Coast's 47500 pilots 4-6-2 unbuilt Battle of Britain 34067 'Tangmere' past Wilson's Crossing north of Northampton. The train was returning to WCR's Carnforth base from Southall following railtour duties before Christmas. Whilst Tangmere was in steam I suspect this was more for show with it providing no assistance to 47500.
