Being off work and it being a superb final day of November I thought I would go out for a lunchtime walk to coincide with a couple of passing freights.

66798, 06.53 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6M45, 3E), Roade cutting
Having photographed 66798 'Justine Langton' for the first time just five days previously working the 6M45 06.53 Dollands Moor to Daventry 'water train' here it is again on the same working! This time the GBRf locomotive is catching some winter. sunshine passing through Rode's impressive one point five-mile long cutting.

66525, 09.52 Lawley Street-Felixstowe North (4L99, 3E), Roade cutting
Freightliner's 66592 plods up the steady rising gradient from Northampton through Roade cutting. The driver of the locomotive will be looking to pick up speed as the line begins to level out as he guides the 4L99 09.52 Lawley Street to Felixstowe south towards Milton Keynes and London.

Class 805, 10.58 Crewe-London Euston (5Q71, 1E), Roade cutting
Testing of the bi-mode Class 805s, which are due to enter service anytime now, is well underway with daily return runs from London to Crewe. This particular unbranded example in its as-built grey paint will remain unidentified working the 5Q71 10.58 Crewe to Euston. Another example had just headed north but my camera was not poised which was already AWC painted and branded looking ready to go and replace the Voyagers.

66510, 07.50 Felixstowe North-Lawley Street (4M94, 200L), Roade cutting
At this point in its journey, the 07.50 Felixstowe to Lawley Street 4M94 Freightliner was running almost to time as it passed through Roade cutting led by 66510. Unfortunately, close to its destination just past Water Orton at Castle Bromwich Junction, something went badly wrong with eventual arrival being over three hours late!

66770, 09.28 Dagenham Docks-Garston (6X43, 25E), Hyde Road bridge
Even by lunchtime with three weeks until the shortest day, the sun is not high enough in the sky to illuminate the depths of Roade Cutting. 66770 leads the 6X43 Ford car train under Roade's Hyde Road bridge taking all manner of cars and vans north from Dagenham, where they are imported from Europe, to their distribution centre at Garston.
