A quick check of RTT whilst eating my Sunday morning breakfast revealed a couple of interesting workings due to pass close to home. One will be another contender for the 'most unusual working of the year' award!

66425, 12.41 DIRFT-Tilbury Container Terminal (4L48, 9L), site of Roade station
The 4L48 'Tesco Express' 12.41 Daventry (DIRFT) to Tilbury passes Roade with 66425 'Nigel J Kirchstein 1957-2021' leading. This normally as regular as clockwork DRS operated service has been a little unreliable of late with some trains being rather lightly loaded but today it was back to normal!

86259, 11.29 Acton Lane Reception Sidings-Rugby CS (0Z89, 26L), site of Roade station
After hauling another successful Cumbrian Mountain Express the previous day 86259 'Peter Pan/Les Ross' passes through Roade as the 0Z89 11.29 Acton to Rugby carriage sidings light engine. Unusually on this particular day, it was running late; a problem that appeared to from the start rather than at some point on its journey. The Class 86 is stabled between duties at Rugby and can be clearly seen at the southern end of the station

47593 & D213, 14.10 Bletchley CS-Crewe HS (5Z29, 34E), site of Roade station
Between them, 47593 'Galloway Princess' and D213 'Andania' had worked the previous day's English Riviera Express charter from Northampton to Kingswear in top and tail manner. On arrival back at Northampton late the previous evening the stock returned the short distance south to Bletchley for overnight stabling. It is now seen returning to its LSL base at Crewe as the 14.10 ex-Bletchley CS running as 5Z29 passing Roade. The enthusiasts gathered to capture the train were, of course, hoping that D213 would be leading but, as can be seen, 47593 was removed from the rear to lead the stock to Crewe prior to departure but the scene is pretty good nonetheless!

66792, 13.50 Kineton MoD-Marchwood MoD (3F01, 1L), Roade cutting
This working must be up there as one of the most unusual so far of the year on my 'home' section of track. Due to the further closure of the GW route around Oxford for enhancement work and preparations for the re-building of the station diversions were again in place for freight. There are irregular workings from the MoD depot at Kineton to Marchwood on the Solent that usually go via Oxford, Didcot and Reading which are handled by GBRf. The lengthy diversions find the 13.50 ex Kineton running as 3F01 passing through Roade cutting led by 66792 'Collaboration'. Note the interesting symmetrical formation with what appears to be a pair of non-articulated Cargowagons acting as barriers which makes one wonder what is in the four containers.
