The curiously named Well-Dressed Queen and the Buxton Bush charter was due near to home at a fairly civilised time and as the sun was out I took a walk to the site of Roade's former station to capture its passing.

66710, 03.15 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M18, 20E), site of Roade station
GBRf's 66710 'Phil Packer' leads the 03.15 Felixstowe to Trafford Park 'liner service past Roade. This 4M18 service runs six days per week always [assing this spot (if it's running to time that is!) at about 07.15. This bright and sunny start to the day did not last. Within an hour or so the clouds had gathered followed by some burst of very heavy rain.

66509, 02.57 Felixstowe North-Garston (4M45, 45E), site of Roade station
Just four minutes after the 4M18 had passed the 4M45 02.57 Felixstowe North to Garston passes Roade hot on its heels led by Freightliner's 66509 'Josiah's Wish'. Note that this service must overtake 4M18 at some time in its journey as it leaves Felixstowe twenty minutes before it!

66529, 03.29 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, 2E), site of Roade station
The driver of 4L52 will be rubbing his eyes as his train emerges into the bright sunlight after passing through the relative darkness of Roade cutting. 66529 leads the 03.29 Garston to London Gateway past the site of Roade station.

Unfortunately, I cocked up the framing of this photograph at Roade showing 47826 leading the curiously named 'The Well-Dressed Queen and the Buxton Bush' charter. I have a bit of a problem standing on this bridge trying to frame the leading locomotive between the masts but at the same time without cropping the rear never knowing how long the train is actually going to be! The charter left Euston at 06.48 arriving at Buxton a little late. Notice that the sky has already started to cloud up even half an hour from the first photograph that I took which was in bright sunshine.

47813, outward leg of 'The Well-Dressed Queen and the Buxton Bush', 06.48 London Euston-Buxton (1Z86, 26L), site of Roade station
Swinging along at the rear going for a ride to Buxton 47813 contrasts in its WCR livery to the former Greater Anglia liveried Mk. II stock. The charter was named The Well-Dressed Queen and the Buxton Bush and I would welcome anybody to inform me what it was all about please as I have no idea? Running as 1Z86, the usual reporting number for The Cumbrian Mountain/Coast Express charters, this one left Euston at 06.48 with pickups all the way as far as Manchester ending up at Buxton.
