The day after the longest day and the nights are beginning to close in! It will be 21.12.23 (the shortest day) in no time and I'll try to get out with my camera then too but I won't be photographing at well past 21.00 as I did on this day! Before the evening's activities, there was the small matter of West Coast's Pullman to Ascot to capture.

The testing of the Greater Angla Aventra Class 720s continues apace on the southern part of the WCML with regular outings from Wembley returning later in the day. 720133 and 720132 are seen approaching Roade from Ashton Road bridge as the 5Q27 08.45 Wembley Yard to Rugby.

Taking the wealthy and rich racegoers from the north to Ascot finds the 06.23 Manchester Victoria to Ascot passing Roade with West Coast Pullman liveried 57313 'Scarborough Castle' leading. Running as 1Z50 the punters on board would be treated to a number of cards on this, the middle day of the Ascot meet, with the 18/1 shot Desert Hero winning the King George V.

66757, 09.28 Dagenham Dock Reception-Garston Car Terminal (6X43, 21E), Hyde Road bridge
The daily Dagenham Dock Reception sidings to Garston Car Terminal cartic makes its way through Roade with GBRf's 66757 'West Somerset Railway' leading. The balancing working heads south empty in the early evening, see....https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30042343259/x66763-14-08-garston-dagenham-dock This train makes a change from the usual diet of 'liners that pass through Roade every day!

Ford cars, 09.28 Dagenham Dock Reception-Garston Car Terminal (6X43, 21E), Hyde Road bridge
With just a few weeks left of Fiesta production, I thought it interesting to focus (get the pun!) my camera on the contents of the 6X43 Dagenham Docks to Garston Car terminal. Indeed, close examination reveals some examples of the doomed Fiesta range on board including the white two-door example leading the line-up.

NB......some two weeks after this image was captured the last Fiesta rolled off Ford's Cologne line on 07.07.23 bringing an end to forty-seven years of continuous production.

221111, VT 19.16 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (5G41, 31L), Victoria bridge
Running over half an hour late AWC's 221111 passes Victoria bridge working the 19.16 Euston to Birmingham New Street. The sun has set so low in the sky now on this, the day after the longest day, that only the fields in the background are in the sun on this pleasantly warm summer's evening.

66415, 18.55 Lawley Street-London Gateway (4L51, 1L), Victoria bridge
66415 'You Are Never Alone' leads the 18.55 Lawley Street to London Gateway Freightliner past Victoria bridge just south of Roade. It is 20.45 on the day after the longest day and the sun is still just managing to illuminate the side of the train with its warm evening light.

66525, 14.33 Felixstowe North-Coatbridge (4S88, 20E), Victoria bridge
This is what I had been wanting to photograph and at 21.29 I managed it all be it in really low light conditions! I have heard the 4S88 14.33 Felixstowe to Coatbridge pass from my house near here many times but have never photographed it due to its timing. Usually, it is rostered for electric haulage but as with all Freightliner services, they will attach what is available at any time and as such, 66525 is seen in charge. It is a shame that it was running about twenty down as those valuable minutes would have made a massive difference to the lighting!
