A very straightforward journey home from London Euston to Northampton. London Northwestern please take note again that no ticket checks took place at any time throughout the journey including at the start and finish points with the gates being open; this is not an unusual occurrence.

1350242, LN 14.23 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y43, 1E), London Euston station
Our train home from London to Northampton sits just inside the entrance to Euston station. My wife and I would travel aboard 350242 and another Desiro unit working the 14.23 service to Birmingham New Street as far as Northampton. The train was busy but did empty out a fair bit on arrival at Watford Junction.

290021, stabled, Wembley Yard
Celebrity liveried 90021 ‘Donald Malcom’ rests between duties in Wembley Yard. The Class 90 was prepared and named almost a year ago in April 2022 to mark the centenary of the founding of Malcom Group (as it is known today) in a tie-up with DB Cargo. This is the first time that I have photographed this locomotive for some years with it being a regular performer on the southern WCML during its time working for Virgin West Coast hauling the Pretendolino set and for ScotRail working the sleepers.

Tickets, London Euston-Northampton
Our return tickets from Euston to Northampton. Gone are the days of an advanced return fare for this journey of £25 in total now being £25 each! As I stated in my introduction to this day, it was another example of London Northwestern’s lapse approach to ticket inspections. There was no gate line at Euston and the barriers were open on arrival at Northampton. In addition, the guard aboard the train stayed firmly away from the passengers throughout the journey only to be heard making occasional announcements including the usual and patronising ‘see it, say it, sort it’ message.
