Graham and took a smashing weekend along the northern section of the Welsh Marches route from Hereford on the first day followed by a survey of the fantastic LMS North Wales route. We travelled in the trusty Austin 1100 camping wild in a field near Connah's Quay

1. The Welsh Marches north of Hereford-01.08.81
We left Graham's house in Combe Down (Bath) early on Saturday morning with our first stop being Hereford for fuel. The day was hot with plenty of sunshine that was forecast to last into the following day.

On an absolutely glorious summer's day we traversed the North Wales coast from east to west ending up at Bangor before heading for home. We arrived back in Bath at well past one am making it an extremely long but rewarding day. Amazingly, many of the signal boxes and scenes were very similar when I revisted the line with Andy in 2016 . However, the more recent weather did not play ball quite as it did thirty five years earlier!
