Just prior to nipping back to work for a few hours there was a 3Q41 mail train run by newbie operator Orion. Despite the incredibly dull day, I stopped off in the village of Roade to witness its passage.

360266 and a classmate work the 1W10 10.33 Birmingham New Street to Euston service through Roade cutting on a ridiculously dull December day! The train is just about to emerge from the southern end of the cutting taken from Roade's Hyde Road bridge. The photograph needed a fair amount of Photoshop treatment to deal with the rather strong levels of digital noise caused by the camera utilising an ISO of 10000, a figure unheard of some years ago!

With the staff training and test runs over Orion Logistics have started operating services on the WCML. However, I am not at all sure how much freight is actually being carried but it is good to see at least some coming off the roads as a result of new flows on the railways. I was under the impression that the former Thameslink units that have been prepared for Orion at Long Marston were to be running under their own AC power all the way but it appears that this is not the case with veteran Class 47 now running as 57212 hauling the train. The 05.35 Sheildnuir to Willesden Park Royal is seen passing through Roade from the village's Hyde Road bridge with 768001 and 319373 making up the stock.
