A characteristically foggy September morning found me out early close to home for the passage of two charters to the north west.

D1935, outward leg of The Settle & Carlisle Coastal Statesman, 07.04 Milton Keynes Central-Appleby (1Z77, 5L), Roade Hill
I could hear D1935 ‘Roger Hosking MA 1925-2013’ for some time before I could actually see it here between Roade and Ashton in Northamptonshire! Formally 47805, 47650 and 47257 the 1966 built Type 4 is seen leading the outward leg of The Settle & Carlisle Coastal Statesman charter that has just left its starting point at Milton Keynes.

66709, 03.15 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M18, 20E), Ashton Road bridge
66709 'Sorrento' emerges from the gloom approaching Roade leading the 4M18 03.15 Felixstowe to Trafford Park Freightliner service. This member of the class wears a one-off livery applied by GBRf to mark its contract with MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company). It includes the image of a container ship image on a light blue background. Between the doors and the cab ends it has Europorte style semi-circles in blue and red on an orange/yellow background.

86259, outward leg of The Cumbrian Coast Express, 07.10 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86, 6L), Milton Crossing
86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' heads north through the thick September fog working the outward leg of The Cumbrian Coast Express. Running as is usual as 1Z86 the train left Euston at 07.10 terminating at Carlisle. Here, steam would then lead the charter around the glorious Cumbrian Coast route to Lancaster.
