52. My first Class 69 (second attempt!)-04.09.21

Today represented GBRf's third attempt to get 69001 from Tonbridge back north and the pressure was on them as the following day it was to be used to haul a leg of the company's epic three-day-long railtour. This would be the first time a Class 69 would haul a passenger train of any kind. For me, it was my second attempt to capture a member of the class and after what seemed days of overcast weather even the sun put in an appearance!

390103, VT 16.27 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H71, RT), site of Roade station
390103 passes the site of Roade's former station working the 16.27 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly train. It is alarming how the lineside vegetation in the foreground has grown so rapidly this summer at this relatively new photgraphic spot. Comparing it with a photograph taken just eighteen months ago, see...... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/28612412004/x350116-350127-12-34-london-euston makes me realise that I probably have another summer of taking unrestricted views at this location before it becomes tricky unless Network Rail (or GBR as they will soon become) descend with their strimmers.

350374 & 350122, LN 17.05 Northampton-London Euston (2N16, RT), site of Roade station
The 17.05 Northampton to London Euston London Northwestern service passes the site of Roade's former station worked by Desiros 350374 and 350122. With so many variants of their livery adorning their trains, it makes a change to see a pair of Desros matching each other!

69001, 14.30 Tonbridge West Yard-Longport (0Z69, 14E), site of Roade station
Looking very smart 69001 'Mayflower' (former 56031) heads north past Roade as the 14.30 Tonbridge Yard to Longport 0Z69 light engine move. This was the third attempt that GBRF made to run this particular working and the second time I managed to get out and see it, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/C385192706/x45-my-first-class-69-25-07-21 The pressure was on GBRf now as 69001 was to work, along with 69002, their own epic four-day 'Now, it's personal' charter the following day on its final leg from Bescot to Paddington via the Midland and then the Cotswold route. This did happen but not without problems as 69002 was shut down with a failed fuel pump at Honeybourne leaving 69001 to do all the work eventually bringing the weary passengers into London forty-nine minutes late.
