Leaving home to go shopping with my wife just happened to coincide with the passage of two interesting workings. I managed to persuade her to stop briefly on the way for me to indulge in my interest; it was all over in just ten minutes and we then went on our way!

37611, 09.15 Derby RTC-Wembley Yard (0H73, RT), Victoria bridge
I had noticed the 0H73 light engine move on RTT earlier in the morning and that it had been activated. It made good progress and was actually being allowed to run ahead of schedule until it got to Northampton. 37611 'Pegasus' is seen passing Victoria bridge just south of Roade as the 09.15 Derby to Wembley Yard. This locomotive is coming up for sixty years old (rather like myself!) and yet is still looking smart and earning its keep on the national network. Twenty seconds later, another veteran of the tracks came the other way....... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30015978482/x2-47749-360108-08-22-cricklewood

47749 & 360108, 08.22 Cricklewood Depot-Northampton EMD (5Q97, 14E), Victoria bridge
From Victoria bridge just south of Roade 37611 'Pegasus' heads south in the distance as the 0H73 light engine move from Derby to Wembley. Meanwhile 47749 'City of Truro' leads an East Midlands Desiro 360108 to Northampton as the 5Q97 08.22 Cricklewood to Northampton EMD presumably for an exam of some kind? With the Class 360s now in service on the MML between St. Pancras and Corby they still need to be maintained and it is Siemens' Kingsheath depot that will be undertaking this work. Whilst it is good news that GBRf has got the contract to haul them from their Cricklewood base I do not quite understand why arrangements have not been made for them to run under their own power? Just a thought to finish on: with the Class 47 being fifty-six years old and the Class 37 in the distance approaching its sixtieth the combined age of the two veteran locomotives is over one hundred and fifteen years old!
