66553, running round, Crewe station
66553 brought a short infrastructure train in from Basford Hall bringing it to a halt just out of view of this photograph. It then detached from the train and is seen making its way away from the wagons to run round. It was interesting to note that the cab contained no fewer than five Freightliner staff members that must have made social distancing somewhat tricky!

390122, VT 10.52 Glasgow Central-London Euston (9M54, 5L), Crewe station
Our next train as part of our tour of the West Midlands arrives at Crewe. We took the 9M54 10.52 Glasgow central to Euston Avanti service to Birmingham New Street. There was plenty of room on this train making for a comfortable and COVID 'secure' trip. The service is being worked by 390122 curiously named 'Penny the Pendolino'!

Journey score 8/10

Andy on-board 390122, VT 10.52 Glasgow Central-London Euston (9M54, 5L), Crewe station
Andy makes up his notebook as we leave Crewe aboard the 10.52 Glasgow Central to London Euston Pendolino service being worked by 390122 'Penny the Pendolino'. I did not notice until I looked at this photograph when digitally processing it that the bridge has been recently repainted not into Avanti or London Northwestern house colours but those of Transport for Wales. Whilst they are a user of the station they are by no means the most significant so the rationale behind this remains a mystery unless anybody in the know can advise me.

73962, 67025, 09204 & 08752, stabled, Crewe LNWR
I am not a fan of photographs taken through train windows but I will always have a go as some interesting scenes can be captured as is the case here. Passing Crewe's LNWR depot located to the eastern side of the mainline to the south of the station often reveals some exotic locomotives. In this view, GBRf's 73962 can be seen to the left with Transport for Wales liveried 67025 in the centre. This is my first photograph of these repainted Class 67s that haul the 'Premiere Service' trains between Holyhead and Cardiff Central. By December these trains will be joined by some rakes of former LNER Mk.IV stock and further Class 67s supplementing services between South Wales and Manchester when the Class 175s are withdrawn to themselves be replaced by new-build CAF Class 197s - complicated isn't it!
