Following a late arrival at Stafford, our planned connection to Smethwick Galton Bridge was missed. We still had to get as far as Wolverhampton in order to get the next train out to Shrewsbury. The next train to Wolverhampton left us with about ten minutes at Stafford but this included a brush with a Class 56 on freight duties.

66197, 09.15 Trafford Park-Southampton Western Docks (4O21, 1E), Stafford station 66197 leads the 09.15 Trafford Park to Southampton 4O21 Freightliner through Stafford's platform three. As can be seen, there was a lot of fresh air being carried on this train with some boxes towards the rear of the train. 56096, running round, Stafford station Having arrived with the 6K38 Longport to Basford Hall freight composed of infrastructure wagons 56096 is seen running round its train, that can be seen in the background, at Stafford. The rather convoluted route was necessitated by the Longport facility to the south of Stoke-on-Trent having no north-facing access to the mainline that would have enabled a relatively easy trip to Crewe via the Alsager route Keywords: 56096 running round Stafford station Colas
350404, LN 10.05 Liverpool Lime Street-Birmingham New Street (1G09, 1L), Stafford station The next train of our tour of the West Midlands arrives at Stafford station. London Northwestern's 10.05 Liverpool to Birmingham New Street took Andy and me as far as Wolverhampton. Arrival at Wolverhampton was on time enabling Andy and me to get a much-needed coffee from a vendor near the station entrance.
