Yet another Sunday of infrastructure workings passing on the WCML very close to home. The difference this time was that the sun was out and actually quite warm! Of the five that passed, I managed to see four of them but with the lovely weather I didn't mind missing one too much! Thanks again to Mike for the information on the reporting numbers of the two DB operated workings.

390123, VT 09.05 Wolverhampton-London Euston (1B05, RT), site of Roade station
Before the sun had burnt back the early Sunday morning murk it was actually a little on the chilly side at the site of Roade station. Wearing my fleece I managed a photograph of 390123 on the up slow line having taken the Northampton route working the diverted 09.05 Wolverhampton to Euston service.

66777, 01.10 North Wembley Junction-Bescot (6G52, 7L), site of Roade station
A poorly composed picture down to a camera malfunction caused by the operator! I would not normally include it but for the fact that this particular Class 66 is a photographic cop. 66777 'Annette' leads the 6G52 10.10 North Wembley Junction to Bescot composed of a combination of JNA and MLA ballast wagons past the site of Roade station. The Class 66 is one of the low emission members of the class run by GBRf but I am unsure as to why it is named as such unless anybody can advise me?

66714, 23.33 North Wembley Junction-Bescot (6G51, 30E), Victoria bridge
66714 'Cromer Lifeboat' passes Victoria bridge just south of Roade with the 6G51 23.33 North Wembley Junction to Bescot returning engineering working. Like the previous 6G52 working its starting time was the middle of the night with this one actually being the previous day! However, both trains spent a number of hours in Wembley Yard before then continuing their respective journeys back to Bescot. Out of sight on the rear of the train is 66728 'Institution of Railway Operators'.

66728, 23.33 North Wembley Junction-Bescot (6G51, 30E), Victoria bridge
Dead in tow at the rear of the 6G51 23.33 North Wembley Junction to Bescot infrastructure train is 66728 'Institution of Railway Operators'. At the front of the train, which is composed almost entirely of a long rake of JNA wagons, is 66714 'Cromer Lifeboat'. With the sun getting to work burning back the cloud drifting in from the east the train is seen approaching Roade from Victoria bridge.

66161, 16.26 Watford South Junction-Bescot (6R01, 18E), site of Road station
A very faded 66161 approaches Roade near to the site of the village's former station leading the 16.26 Watford to Bescot 6R01 engineering train. The stock is composed of a rake of HQA autoballsters that were involved in work on the fast lines in the Watford area. After the awful weather of the previous few weeks, making May one of the wettest and coolest on record, it's nice to get such a smashing late afternoon with lovely lighting.

390124, VT 16.30 London Euston-Crewe (1F19, 1L), site of Roade station
It's astonishing to think that Pendolinos are twenty years old next year! Many first-generation diesels such as my beloved Westerns had been and gone in less time than this! As 390024 this particular example was one of the earlier members of the class that is now in the hands of its second operator Avanti West Coast. Now an eleven car set and numbered 390124 it is seen passing Roade in lovely late afternoon sun working the 1F19 16.30 Euston to Crewe service.

66119 & 66014 19.30 Ledburn Junction-Bescot (6R05, 109E), site of Roade station
With a fair amount of heat haze emanating from the exhaust 66119 leads the 6R05 very early running 19.30 Ledburn Junction to Bescot infrastructure working. The train is seen passing Roade with 66014 dead in tow on the rear. I expected not to able to see this train as we had a family barbeque arranged when it was due to pass. However, after seeing the preceding 6R01 as I was walking home I happened to check my 'phone that revealed that this one had left Ledburn Junction and that it was already underway and passing Bletchley so I returned to whence I came!
